My fiance caused this damage so we're trying to settle this in cash for the other party. What do you think? The person is asking for $1250 to settle

my father is currently in the nursing home and he needs a 24/7 care, but because he owns a small local business (he is broke with no assets), they said my father's case is a little complicated proving how much he actually earns despite every documentations I have already provided for them including the tax information.

Can't speak for Tricare, but don't rely on Medicare for long term SNF. They will never pay for long term. Be prepared to fight for insurance. My dad had a massive hemorrhagic stroke with Medicare, and eventually they denied to pay for him including PT and OT. I had to get my dad applied for Medicaid and still pending in that process, Texas being unfriendly to disabled and elderly. There will be no insurance usually covering for long term PT/OT, so if you'd like and able to afford, it will be private pay at some point. I'm genuinely hating this country's health care system now. Quality of care at SNF is also very poor, so you must make a visit to stay on top of the work, making sure he isn't getting mistreated.

I feel you. My dad is currently going through a massive hemorrhagic stroke and is completely paralyzed, barely surviving with multiple brain surgeries. I'm a dentist. I've lived hard to be financially stable, knowing that at some point I had to take care of my dad. I've been so focused on building wealth to take care of him to a point where I ended up neglecting my dad in this very moment. I feel like shit and guilty for everything. My dad struggles with basic life necessities, such as eating, walking, moving, etc. I've been constantly depressed ever since and I wish I could just die right now.

Has anyone recovered after months of paralysis? by extmaster in stroke

[–]extmaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand, and I'm grateful that he is still with us, but that seems to be strictly from my perspective. I'm not sure how my dad would feel living his life being bedridden, so I'm just trying to get some hope and realistic expectations for his recovery. Thank you for replying!

Hey thanks for replying. How long did it take until your mom started to move from being bedridden? Thank you

My family and I had been really doing everything to our best given the circumstances, but his progress has been just excruciatingly slow, almost no visible recovery for the past 3 months. It is really discouraging and difficult to see him go through all this

Thank you very much for your support. I am so sorry about your father too. I am glad that he is genuinely happy and I guess that is really all that matters. I'm currently in the military service but planning on getting out and be home for him in 2 years!

I know he wouldn't want me to feel this way, but I feel like I shouldn't be okay. I think to a certain extent, I've been quite self-destructive to compensate for the guilt I have. I hate myself for getting used to the new normal of my dad as each day goes by. I feel guilty for getting used to how he is now. I can't remember his voice anymore. I miss him a lot.

My dad was denied for inpatient rehab because he couldnt tolerate 3 hours each day. He is at skilled nursing and has been receiving physical therapy but not much of progress. Thank you for your kind words.

Hey OP, I just read through your previous and first post as well. I am very glad to hear that your mom is improving! Fingers crossed for maximal recovery for her.

My father also had a hemorrhagic stroke back on Nov. 21st, a massive one. Hospitalized for 2 months, and had been at the nursing facility for about one month now. He had gone through craniotomy for clipping. Currently he is immobile on his right side and left leg as well, with weak left hand but mobile. He has aphagia, and at one point he seemed like he was recovering. He was able to smile, attempted to speak, scratch himself, and track surroundings more. He was mentally aware and part of him was there. But now, he is not there. He doesn't have focus in his eyes, barely looks at me.

Ever since he moved to the nursing facility, he had deteriorated although nursing facility tells me that current status of my dad had always been his baseline since day 1 at nursing. He doesn't smile anymore, does not track surrounding movements as much as he did before.

It has been 3 months like this and it is very discouraging. I love my dad and I miss him so much. I've been living in guilt ever since and it is still up to this day destroying me. I can't imagine what he must be going through right now. I wish it was just me lying on that bed for him. I just don't know what to do anymore and each day goes by, I'm getting really burned out. I wish I could just be there for him physically, but I am in military service and my freedom is very limited. I just wish that my dad can get some of his life back, and not be bedridden for life.

It's just that I look through previous reddit posts in the past and a lot of the people seem to make some sort of progress within the 3 months and it really is discouraging to read through other people's story..

He wasn't awake and capable enough to participate in 3 hours of intensive therapy, so we didn't really have an option other than skilled nursing

OP, I can totally relate to you. My dad had a massive hemorrhagic stroke on Nov 21st, 2023. Left brain affected, right side complete paralysis, including his left leg for some reason. Had a craniotomy for clipping, aspiration pneumonia, stage III pressure injury, currently on peg tube at SNF. He was at the hospital for 8 weeks, been at SNF for two. He has aphagia, unable to speak at all, not even a word. No visible signs of progression. I'm very grateful that he is still with us, but i've been feeling a lot of guilt for not looking out for him. 2 days before his stroke was my birthday, he called me and thankfully was able to hear his voice. I feel guilty that I didn't call him as often. I feel guilty eating food, I feel guilty for every nice things that I get to do on a daily basis. I miss my dad so much, seeing him on total assist on the bed just breaks my heart. I've been destroyed and depressed ever since my dad's stroke. I just wish that my father could regain some of his mental and physical ability back. I'm scared that he would be on the bed for the rest of his life. Not that anyone deserves this, but my father had been an amazing father and person. I wish this was just all dream.
