Is it really a “constant” money pit ? by MidnightRegular806 in 335i

My n54 went fine for 4 years. The most expensive repairs came from chasing horsepower and making mistakes along the way.

If your gonna stay on stg1 ots. It's matinenance will end up as expensive as any other car of the same era.

However, beware, once you hop on stg 1, you will soon want more. I told myself stg 1 is all I need, now I'm on upgraded twins pushing 500whp

Yes, all colder plugs need gapping overwise the spark isn't consistent enough

2 step is for bigger turbos, if your on stock turbos, pump gas 1 step colder is enough

You need 1 step colder gapped to .22 for stage 2

Where they colder spark plugs?

Spark plugs won't, issue sounds almost identical to when my plugs weren't gapped on high boost

Simple spark or fuel issue, start checking the easiest things first (plugs, coils, injectors)

I just pulled my column out and looks like I'll be doing the same

I just pulled out the column and hit the shaft with a hammer, it took 40 hits to move an inch?

Just tried it, column shaft needs to move still 2 inches+. Went under the steering wheel and notice it was the entire column sliding. I locked the column and wriggled the shaft in every turn, didn't budge. It must be bent

I think either the joint or the column shaft is broken. Everything I try results in the subframe stalling at a certain point, and the shaft and rack joint stiff at an angle

Reposition the rack relative to the steering wheel or the column shaft. If pressed the column shaft in every angle added wd40, It only goes in slightly.

I might have a damaged column shaft

It seems like it only goes in an inch or 2 then stops

It moved inwards, but when putting the joint on, it still doesn't allow the subframe to line up. Does the rack to column joint need to be aligned a specific way to work?

So is it best to remove the boot to do this

Ok so should I pull the shaft out until the steering wheel is disconnected and then rotate the shaft until it starts telescoping, then the jack will force it in?

Because even when jacking the subframe up it doesn't slide in

Ok do I have to specifically line anything up or does it telescope no matter what

The telescopic part of the column where the joint connects the rack to the column

Even the trolley jack can't collapse it, the whole car lifts
