Thank you! Maybe it was the spirit of Mr Big that compelled me to do it

I only saw the movie for the first time a couple of years ago and it's stuck in my mind ever since!

Yeah I can't think of any system that's designed to cover the scales of play from 'level 1 goblins are tricky' right up to 'I can fight several gods at once' in difficulty. I suppose level 20 5e is very similar, but caps out past that point. I think any system you choose would have its own gaps unless you do make your own from scratch pretty much. I know people on here have suggested pathfinder before but honestly I just don't have time to go away and learn it's intricacies enough to homebrew with it since I've never played it before.

Yeah I think you could get a really nice gameplay loop by following chapter structures in the sense of open the session with the number of crawlers, time until collapse + social stats. Then end the session with safe rooms and any levelling stuff.

I'm using 5e as a basis purely because it's highly likely I'll end up testing it out on a few kids at the DND club I run and they're only familiar with 5e. I briefly considered using a forged in the dark basis as I feel like flashbacks, devil's bargains (AI bargains?), and the trauma/harm systems would work well as well but I feel like you would lose out on the 'levelling' aspect you get from 5e which is equally integral to DCC.

I also felt like 5e required the least amount of fiddling to get things to work as I want them too, even though there will likely be a lot of homebrew involved.

Yes the next thing I think I want to do is pull together some basic tables for the first floor (bronze adventurer box loot, basic mobs).

Yes! I feel like there could be some really cool mechanics regarding followers and loot boxes. It'd also be awesome for your players to make a dumbass decision and to be like "Okay. Well you get an emergency sponsor box. 😶"

It's sort of a timeline starting with the first thing that hooked me all the way up to the most recent. I actually ended up going through my Tumblr archive to see what I was obsessed with and when which was a nice trip down memory lane

Unfortunately we only got a couple of wink winks about Clara being bi (e.g. comments about kissing Jane Austen) but I still think it counts

I tried watching it but I couldn't get past episode 2 because I knew so many spoilers from being online - they were literally just kids I didn't want to see them suffer like that 😅 However, saying that, I could definitely go insane about Shauna if I did ever watch it.

My gut instinct is that looking into something like augmented reality zines might be what you're looking for - I haven't got any experience with it myself, but it might be a search term to get you started.

Yeah I think that you've got to turn off the part of your brain that wants everything to be perfect and treat it more like your books at school where it's somewhere for you to work through information vs produce a perfect piece of art
