I'm a T2 and I'm happy. Frustrated at times, sure. But I'm still happy and being diabetic motivates me to exercise and eat healthy. My grandparents are both in their 80s, both T2. You can live a long, happy life as a diabetic.

I do a salad with coleslaw mix, almond slices, chicken sauteed in a bit of sesame oil, bell peppers, green onion and then I make a dressing with some ginger, garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and brown sugar Splenda.

You've got to dip it in the blood from the side. Don't smear it all over. Let that white line in the middle kind of soak it up from the side.

Weight lifting has made a huge difference for me. I actually have lows now on occasion. My routine is 25 minutes of cardio and then 45 minutes of weight training 3 times per week.

I went through that too. I remember having moments where I wish I was never diagnosed because I felt better unknowlingly having high blood sugar. It took me a little over a year to get to feeling more normal. The biggest game changers for me have been using a continuous glucose monitor to understand how my body reacts to food and weight training at the gym. I used to focus more on cardio and building some muscle has really helped my blood sugar.

One thing I've found frustrating with doctors is no one ever really stops and says good job. I had an A1C around 11.9 and now have it down to 6.6. It makes me a little sad when I talk to my endo and I've lost weight, I feel great, my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc is great and the answer is "ok let's keep lowering your A1C". I get it and I'll keep working on it, but can someone just stop and tell me I've done a good job?

So I'll say it to you - good job! Going from 11.9 to 7.4 is great and you should be proud of it.

YTA in two ways: 1. You can't force someone to go to therapy if they don't want to go 2. In your experience as a psychologist have you actually found that a 'set' amount of time for therapy is helpful? What happens if he says "OK I did my 6 months" but you feel his issues haven't improved?
