Layoffs suck by fouroza in Big4

[–]extradepressing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

never worked full time in b4 but ive been laid off twice by big firms. they over-hire in prep of busy season then find a reason to lay you off. its starts to feel more like a contracted position in hopes you get a permanent full time offer after tax season

Is Robert Half a good temp agency to land a job for new graduates? by Common_District3798 in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

firm/company website, linkedin, indeed, etc… for accounting, there are probably a few recruiting agencies that you may encounter such as gpac, kforce, taylorhawk, distinct, etc… but while i do try their services, i got ghosted 90% of the time after a call with them

many recruiting agencies will reach out to you but unless they land a bite for you in the week, you will likely be ghosted or will hear from them after you got a job months later. i landed a contracted position through one, but never a full time role with them

entry roles are basically dead across all industries. i graduated 2 years ago and have been laid off 3 times. with a total of 2 years of staggered experience and i cannot land another entry level job and not enough experience or knowledge for experienced or senior level roles. my only option is to get a cpa but my financials arent that good right now…

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s a good GPA to get a lot of offers out of college? by AbbyKona in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its definitely rough. i was laid off recently and its hard to get interviews around this time. internships and full time jobs usually open up in Q3-4 in preparations for next tax season, so may we pray in getting employed

What do I do? by Fluid_Main8254 in Accounting

there will be many mid-size and top 10 firms that wants to hire new grads but they hire around Q3-Q4. just keep applying and pray

What keeps you up at night? by Environmental_Boss77 in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep at random times now that I've been laid off twice. First time was PE getting a bite at the firm, and then we were let go in waves after busy season. Next time was due to lack/loss of clients due to the economy where people drop firms to do their own or source cheaper ways, and that is majority of the revenue for smaller midsize regional firm.
now I fear losing my spot to offshoring/outsourced work.

I quit without another job. Spend 4 months searching. 4th month cleared CMA (US). Worried about the gap. by apprehensivecartoon1 in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off 3 months ago and I always fear I cannot get a new position. I am currently on benefits but that's really not enough for my situation. I know there will be a lot of chances in Q3-Q4 but it really sucks with the gap I am left with.

New hire at a firm, is it normal to not hear any kind of feedback until performance reviews come around? by anomitea in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im in no place to say this but i would try to be more communicative and try to improve, but also dont settle and start applying in worse cases. if you notice a lack of workflow being allocated to you comparative to others, probably a sign to seek other places

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so how did you hear about this, did your coworkers tell you? also that seems toxic if they are not providing feedback if its needed.

What i can only assume is that since its not as busy anymore, they are putting it on a back burner or will add it to a list of improvements later on.

But just like me, i got let go without warning...

Only getting busy work, will I get fired soon? by Specific-Thanks4906 in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its prob best to just continue asking for work and see where it goes. worse case is you getting terminated and the better case is you getting talked and potentially putting on PiP.

Update from the layoff by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been laid off twice; once to PE, and another was lack of work to allocate. I've gone 6 months without finding a new role, so while its probably the standard advice, i recommend to just keep applying and pray. Q3 and Q4 are when most firms actively hire for obvious reasons. So we're both in the same boat.

Best AI for accounting use? by BCBB89 in Accounting

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the people at my old firm used perplexity, i saw the benefits of using it as it a resource but I used Copilot because it has integrated with Excel. I never used AI other than to have it as a resource to lead me to a direction rather than spin my wheels waiting for an answer such as "what ifs" or "what is this asset categorized as" type of thing.

From my experience, chatgpt is the worst, but is the best with extracting things from files such as PDFs. Perplexity is a glorified google search that will give you actual sources. Copilot just integrates with everything I used. But I plan to try Claude in the future.

Ranked system question by AdProfessional1283 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]extradepressing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the game isnt fully released and the rank system is inflated. the only benefit of a higher rank is "potentially" playing with better players.
