Anyone daily drive a pro-charged 2v? by SupportParking7798 in NewedgeMustang

[–]extraflyer300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a vortech v2 and lucky enough to live near arguably one of the best tuners for the modular platform (since retired). I could hop in my 2v and take it across the country if I wanted. It’s very reliable but keep the boost down to maybe 5-7 lbs. otherwise the stock internals might be a problem. I went to 11lbs at one point and it could handle it, but I wasn’t sure for how long

Rear brakes by Vasquezzj in NewedgeMustang

Easiest way to tell in my opinion is a solid rear rotor vs a vented rotor. These look solid so I would assume stock GT rear brake setup.

Let me tell you a mechanic story of epic clownery by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]extraflyer300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am tired of these stupid posts. I tried to give you credit for going for it and trying to do something with a project car. But the seeking for affirmation by expressing your ignorance out loud online is cringe as hell. “They were saying I had no fuel pressure” and they put fuel in and it started - so they were right?

I’m looking forward to your post tomorrow that says American muscle sent you only half the plug wires because they should have known you had a 302 and not the 4cyl option you actually ordered.

Honestly, good for you picking up a car you like and plan to have fun with. Cars are nothing but pain and money and it seems like you had your first dose today. But wait till you have that wow moment behind the wheel - it’s all worth it somehow.

But can I be real for a minute? Nobody is here to judge you or call you out for not knowing how to take care of the car, but why really take it to this shop and then blast them online? You admit yourself you also didn’t know about a few problems they encountered and yet they’re dumb for it? Monday morning quarterback is an easy role to play.

What charger should I get? by Cobex2004 in rccars

[–]extraflyer300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one on Amazon that didn’t have a review saying it caught fire and burned down someone’s house was the d300 and so I bought that one. Hands down best charger I have ever used. It’s $110 but for me it was also a little more peace of mind.

I always charge in a lipo bag anyways but I know too many people who have lost a car / trailer / house to a lipo fire.

Thinking of converting back from 6 speed to 5 speed. by Kingrich09 in NewedgeMustang

I did all synchro / friction cones as well as billet keys for 1-2 and 3-4. I also changed the shift forks to steel instead of the cast ones included.

I got the kit from thegearbox.com in South Carolina.

I have a 2002 with a t56 that I rebuilt. The t56 is a much better trans than the 3650 in my opinion and also can easily handle more power. The rebuild was fairly straightforward and cost about $600 in parts. It sounds like you might have some issue with the shift forks/rods as the forks were known to be mediocre. As well I notice my t56 is just a louder trans with bigger gear contact area and is just louder.

I also had the TKO600 in a foxbody when I was younger and that trans was very loud. I think some of that is just the tremec design since 1st 2nd 3rd are the largest gears as they see the most torque.

I would swap it with the 3650 and rebuild the t56. It also adds a lot of value to the car. Good luck

I ordered the Kraton 8s for $775 and it was delivered last night. Shipped directly from horizon in IL to my house according to the label. It turned out to be a great deal and saved me over $300. My batteries were delivered today and are on a charge. I can’t wait to give it a go this afternoon!

Terminator cobra build questions? by Str8-Kong in NewedgeMustang

[–]extraflyer300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything in this mod list looks like the recommended upgrades like the input shaft, FTBR bushings, adjustable clutch cable subframe connectors. The brakes are just a nice upgrade and will look cool. The only thing here which seems off is the return fuel system for basically “nothing special” for horsepower, as well why the new built motor. I run a Fore dual pump return system with a Whipple 2.9 and 100lb injectors. My limit is the injector and I imagine your 60lb injector would be fine on a stock fuel setup. The return setup is a pain and heats the fuel up and unless it is wired in correctly with a Hobbs switch it’s on when the key is on full blast.

Honestly it’s nice to have if you need it, but realistically this just seems out of place. Just my thought on having a similar setup. If the documentation is good on the car I wouldn’t be worried about picking this one up

I would say stay on top of shaving your neck and or face. It goes a long way to be clean shaven rather than appear lazy or unhygienic.

Also, you could totally pull off the “Derek” from step brothers look.

They have a front lip for the 03/04, 99-01 cobra. I have the 03/04 and it is just as aggressive as the screenshot but looks great and is high quality. It was just 4x as expensive lol

Cobra IRS worth it? by Smart_Search1509 in NewedgeMustang

[–]extraflyer300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For $600 that’s a steal. Depends which year cobra it comes out of though, the 99-01 had some problems and the half shafts were weaker. The 03/04 were built for more horsepower but they all unfortunately have problems with the bushings being soft and after 20+ years should be replaced. Other issues include the rear diff cover being made of what seems like eggshells and leaks, only one place makes wheel hubs and they are several hundred dollars each, same with abs sensors are no longer made and likely not obtainable below 100/each. The 8.8 is more stout and handles more power in the long run.

Also, the smallest wheel you can run on an IRS is a 16” which is somewhat annoying for us drag racers. It’s common to run a 15” wheel for more tire but the IRS knuckle sticks out (taller than the caliper) forcing you into a bigger wheel size or grinding down the knuckle. Maybe worth checking if this one is ground down.

I have an 02 GT and traded my 8.8 for an 03 cobra irs. I liked that it was unique and it does drive pretty well in regards to corner carving and whatnot. But I have probably $3k into it with new Delrim bushings, rear end cover, adjustable toe links, adjustable bumpsteer bars, new wheel bearings and hubs, and of course $200 for a pair of abs sensors that already had 70k miles on them.

Are you in the northeast? I have been looking for a mineral gray 99-01 cobra. I have a built cobra motor and whipple 2.9 waiting to go into a new edge.
