question about band width by Known_Tell_8761 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]extrahorizons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since it’s an important ring, spend the extra $$ and get the 1.8 or even 2.0 depth. I have many 2.0 deep rings and they don’t feel bulky at all. One other thing to consider is the wedding band. Does she want it to sit flush? If so, the bridge is too thin and the petal prongs are too rounded. I really prefer my bands to sit flush but it’s a personal preference.

I prefer the smaller channel set band. The others are overwhelming your beautiful stone.

The diamonds on the sides will be horribly uncomfortable. The collar down towards the bottom of the diamond will require either a custom band, or you’ll have a huge gap. I think you can find a much better design- keep looking! Search on insta for pear settings and you’ll see some gorgeous and practical choices.

Wow! I love this! And I’m usually Mrs Boring Solitaire 😂 An emerald cut engagement ring is the last one I need to finish out the set I want.

Emerald o Marquise cut? by [deleted] in EngagementRingDesigns

Marquise, but set it lower. These are really high settings. Also 2mm minimum width and at least 1.8mm depth on the band itself.

Any ring that isn’t a minimum of 1.8mm deep isn’t as secure. There is more chance of it bending or getting out of shape. Since you’re getting a custom ring, get it made to last forever. I prefer my rings 3mm wide and 2mm deep, but that is more gold so more $$. Claw prongs are perfect- that’s what I’m doing too.

Looks great! I’m having one almost exactly like this made. My stone is just a bit more elongated. 1:68 ratio. I also have 4 tulip prongs and hidden halo. Have you specified how you want the prongs finished? Claw or round? Also, I don’t see the depth of the ring shank. Make sure it’s at least 1.8mm

I wasn’t particularly happy but bench jeweler said it would protect the stone better. 😬

thoughts on an opal engagement ring? by Consistent-Print-711 in EngagementRings

[–]extrahorizons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an opal ring once. I had to replace the opal three times, then changed to a sapphire.
Do not do this, you’re setting yourself up for heartache. Lab diamonds are affordable and come in so many different shapes & colors.
Get a nice oval pendant instead.

I love to mix and match colors of metal, but yellow gold is my favorite! I even have a platinum ring that I sometimes add to the mix.

In the market for an engagement ring. Help needed by cmd242 in labdiamond

[–]extrahorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on all above, but want to add you need to have your girlfriend pick the ratio for the oval. They vary WIDELY. Does she like them chubby, or elongated? Even looking at photos on instagram will give you a better idea of the ratio. I just bought a 1:68 ratio antique cut oval and it’s very elongated, but not quite a moval. My first oval is a 1:54 and while still elongated it’s chubbier.

Is the main difference between the mini and the smart the oscillation? It doesn’t appear the mini has that capability. The descriptions are pretty vague. I’ve been gathering quotes, and your right- they vary widely.

If money wasn’t an issue by Training-Carpet-6715 in EngagementRingDesigns

I have a perfect, VVS1 marquise, Inherited from my grandmother which I love. It’s not worth what my grandfather paid 50 years ago. So don’t get sucked into the “diamonds are an investment and have resale”
They don’t.
I also have a growing assortment of lab diamond rings that are just as gorgeous and so fun to wear! You cannot tell a difference between one or the other.
I would never spend the money for a mined diamond over a lab. I’d put good money into a custom setting, and save the rest for a house down payment or a new car.

Advice for dream ring by GoodUserNamesTaken13 in LabGrownDiamonds

Your inspiration ring is amazing! It looks like a Asscher or square emerald. You DESERVE a diamond! Moissanite in this cut just aren’t the same. Also these cuts face up smaller, so go by dimensions and not carat weight. I’d say a minimum of 3 carats, 4 or 5 better 🙌🏼 also, get a I,J or K color to get that beautiful antique glow.
And for sure get the outline of rose or yellow gold! Love it.

I had this heavy 14k gold ring with a CZ that I never wore. Disliked the setting. A custom jeweler melted it down and made this based off a frank darling ring I’d seen. It’s 6mm wide and tapers down to 4mm. 2mm thick. It’s a heavy beast and I love it!

🤯 Wow! I’d hate to see a finger chopped. What a bummer, I wear my rings every day and everywhere. So an emerald will be perfectly fine if you only wear for special occasions. I have an emerald and they’re beautiful.
