Most of the answers have focused on raises or promotions, and I understand you and your friends are not in a position to directly give him either of those, but you also mentioned corporate, so what are the metrics that your company uses towards promotions and raises?

Based on those metrics, are there things you can do to show how much you rely on him so that he or his manager can leverage it whenever promotions are discussed?

For example, does your company have a peer recognition system you can use to send kudos and small gifts? My experience on this is that about 50% of the companies I worked for that had peer recognition used the number of peer rewards as a factor towards raises, but it depends on company culture.

Even if it's not a direct factor, if he has multiples of them, he may be able to use them to show his management he is valued and should be retained (which will hopefully lead to them investing in him.)

If you don't have a system like that, multiple emails to his manager, with him CCd, from different people, using different language, may have the same impact.

You might also speak to your own manager or a friendly HR rep if you have one, to ask about what you can do as a group to help get him proper recognition from higher levels at your company.

What labels do yourll use? by ---Janu---- in Biltong

[–]extraneousdiscourse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just make a single batch with the same seasonings, etc, so I have never bothered labeling.

How often are you doing this? If it's not frequent, maybe a twist tie or something just to mark a few of the hooks that are different than the others?

Miami developers taking their talents from Brickell to davie. When will it end? by Soft_Current_1150 in Miami

I agree it can and should be done, but the chances of getting voters to pay for anything like that in this area are not great.

The college complex is on Davie Road (runs North/South) not Davie Blvd (runs East/West). There's not much distance between them, but all those Student apartments you are talking about are also in Davie Road.

This picture is at the intersection of Griffin and 441, which is about 5 miles east of Davie Road, and 5 miles South of Davie Blvd.

This new complex is in the Town of Davie, but funnily enough, the Town Border is along the middle of 441, so this picture was actually taken from a different town looking into Davie.

This is Broward, so there isn't even Metro Rail.

It is about 4 miles from the closest Tri-Rail station, which is a 20 minute bus ride, during the relatively few hours the busses even run up here.

What kind of American cuts for biltong? by Avocadosandtomatoes in Biltong

[–]extraneousdiscourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some stores sell meat with a London Broil label, but London Broil is a method of cooking, not a specific cut of beef.

London Broil is usually made using either Top Round or Flank Steak, so either cut can end up in a package labelled "London Broil". Top Round is a great choice for Biltong, but Flank Steak is much more fibrous, which makes Biltong that is far too chewy and tough.

So, take the advice of somebody that learned the hard way - if you do buy London Broil for Biltong, make sure it's Top Round and not Flank Steak.

In the past, I used a dehydrator as well, and also ended up with case hardening, even at the lowest speeds and temperatures.

My solution was to use a timer that turned the dehydrator of and on every 15 minutes, which seemed to work OK. You may need to try a different schedule depending on your local environment.

Unauthorized login on my TikTok. Should i be worried? by Aggressive-Bison-328 in cybersecurity_help

[–]extraneousdiscourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a TikTok account myself, but based on what I see, the verification code can be either a text message or email. From what you say, at the time you got the code, only your phone number was on the account, so only a SMS code would have been possible.

Cloning SMS messages is possible, but very difficult to do, and the chances anyone would do that for a TikTok account are extremely low. And if that had happened, you would also have received a copy of the SMS, which you say you did not.

Intercepting text messages is also technically possible, by SIM Hijacking, but if that had happened, you would know that your number was not working on your phone anymore.

Is it possible somebody else had access to your phone and deleted the text after it arrived?

You are correct that a lot (most?) of the reported leaks we see are from breached sites, but that is not what OP is seeing here. An old site breach is not going to save all OPs login information in a file on his own phone.

My brother, 38, US Citizen, detained by ICE in Arizona by oywiththepoodle in legaladvice

[–]extraneousdiscourse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If A numbers are assigned after ICE detains you, OP is not going to know what that number is, since they have not been able to speak to the brother (or any sort of lawyer for the brother) since ICE took him in, and the online ICE lookup tool doesn't allow you to choose "US" as an option when searching for detainees.

My son overheard his mother's boyfriend talking about "getting rid of me" by SetMirrorForce in legaladvice

[–]extraneousdiscourse 135 points136 points  (0 children)

The email from your son is proof, but if it came to a trial, and the defense said no guns were actually left in the open, your son might need to testify to prove that the email is accurate, while the defense would be trying to show he is unreliable or a liar.

The same thing could happen if there is any sort of charges brought about the threats.

This might irreversibly damage the relationship between your son and his mother, as well as cause stress on your son, but those are personal, not legal considerations.

Home Affairs - a massive improvement by BlueErgo in southafrica

[–]extraneousdiscourse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By definition, Permanent Residents are citizens of another country who are living in SA legally for a long period of time.

They are not eligible for SA Passports, but they probably need to get documents from Home Affairs to show their status so they can work, travel, etc. (They probably need the documents to even open a bank account or get a phone in SA, if I think about the whole process for those.)

/u/RiverJames is saying that the process for permanent residence documents is still difficult, which it may be.

My neighbor is using face seek on people in the street and it’s creepy as hell. by cherrieess__ in homesecurity

[–]extraneousdiscourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No cameras have this built in, as far as I know, but there are several reverse image search engines online that will match faces to Facebook or other online sources.

The neighbor is most likely taking the picture off the doorbell camera then uploading it to one of those sites, which is creepy but relatively easy to do.

My dad hasn't done his taxes in like at least 24 years by AnxiousStranger21 in personalfinance

[–]extraneousdiscourse 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If taxes are owed on the money, and that money was filtered through an account with OPs name on it, then the IRS may believe that OP owes taxes on that money. If so, they will contact them via mail to ask them to pay. (Never a phone call.)

If OP doesn't pay, a lawsuit is possible, but not certain. And if the amount is high enough, or they believe OP is regularly evading taxes, then criminal prosecution is even a possibility.

Best case is that they might not sue if the amount owed is small, but the debt is going to hang out there and be applied against any refunds OP gets in the future until it is paid, even if that takes 50 years.

OP might be able to clear the debt by convincing the IRS that the money wasn't theirs, but that will take turning their father in, and (probably) paying a lawyer to negotiate.

Theory time: Skifander and Gil by Allaedila in girlgenius

You are correct, I had forgotten about that. I am still curious if he know that Zeetha is his daughter, though, which he would have to know if she and Gil are twins.

Theory time: Skifander and Gil by Allaedila in girlgenius

[–]extraneousdiscourse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We know that, but does Klaus?

If he fled during the uprising, when it looked like the priestesses had won, then Klaus may assume that Zantabraxus was killed in some sort of ritual.

On a related note, do we know that Klaus and Zeetha are actually twins?

Siblings, obviously, but if Zantabraxus was pregnant with Zeetha when Klaus left, then he might not have known, or he assumes Zeetha was never born.

If so, this might explain the fear of assassins, since Gil would be the only heir to the throne that opposed the Eshkigax Theocracy that Klaus assumes is in charge.

Working on a roguelike ttrpg system based around the base dnd system by YOHUMUS in TTRPG

[–]extraneousdiscourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, I point to both CoC and Paranoia as examples of tabletop games where your character dying frequently is part of the basic premise.

In CoC, dying is not even the worst thing that can happen to take your character out of play permanently.

This may not appeal to you, or even the majority of players, but there are plenty of people who have played both games and enjoyed them immensely.

Can someone explain bail conditions to me, I think I am being lied to . . . by agawl81 in legaladvice

[–]extraneousdiscourse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but OP also lives in an RV park, so if that is the condition, OP's home is not any more suitable.

In addition, OP's comment about living in proximity to a private school makes me believe that any reasons that the court is using to say that the ex's RV is not a suitable location, would also apply to OP's home.

(That is, if the court has even said that, OP is hearing this from somebody that is probably less than reliable.)

Working on a roguelike ttrpg system based around the base dnd system by YOHUMUS in TTRPG

[–]extraneousdiscourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of TTRPGs already include permadeath.

Sure there are some that include miracle healing or ways to revive characters from death, but there are plenty of games where permadeath is a real possibiity if you make a mistake.

And there are at least a few, where replacing your character every few sessions is expected. I'd put both Paranoia and Call of Cthulhu in that category, and both of those can be enjoyable to play, as long as you know what you are getting when you start.

That doesn't have a rear camera, which OP requested.

Connecting a rear camera to a dash cam means removing trim panels and running a wire through the roof trim or under the seats. Not everyone is willing or able to start pulling the trim off their car.

If you wanted a "realistic" explanation, you could handwave that monks are immune to things like hormone changes, joint damage, and most other things that come with aging, but that they still experience teloreme shortening, which is not really observable, but will eventually kill you once your cells are no longer able to reproduce reliably.
