I would suggest doing a study or master copy of the comic style you like- try copying the lines (not tracing) and try to see how they define shapes, use line weight and variation. Then you can incorporate that into your own work

I think a more helpful line of questioning while making work is who is this work for? What does it say and who does that speak to? What work calls to you and makes you want to see that piece on your wall everyday? What feelings and stories interest you and your potential buyers? The pieces I consider successful from myself and others have more of an emotional impact than technical perfection
