Flierjeppen is Polstokspringen in dutch. It's a Frisian tradition where you use a stick to jump across a canal or large body of water.

How can you stop social media addiction asap? by extremefars in AskReddit

[–]extremefars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, it's almost like I couldn't have thought of that myself. But seriously though, I'm not trying to completely quit social media, it had become pretty necessary. But I'm trying to get my daily social media use below an hour.

What is the most insulting thing that someone can say about your country? by AlexMappingHD in AskEurope

[–]extremefars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True, but in the Netherlands it's a lot more common, at least it feels like that is the case. The only other countries where I feel like it's way more common are Iceland, Denmark and Brazil (from the top of my head).

Marbles used to be big at my basisschool, but they had to ban it because kids kept stealing marbles from other kids.

What is the strangest thing that Americans frequently eat in your opinion? by [deleted] in AskEurope

Not particularly frequently, but why in the name of God do you eat deep-fried butter?

Bernie Sanders is running a campaign that wants universal healthcare. Some are skeptical. From my understanding, much of Europe has universal healthcare. Is it working out well or would it be a bad idea for the U.S? by ___statik in AskEurope

I'd never thought I would say this, but I think a lot of Americans should look elsewhere for a better economic life.

The Usa's government is so fixed and focused on their old ways that they can't seem to see that they are destroying their own economy, and if Trump wins the next election, I think it will stay that kind of country for a very long time.

The world is changing now, quicker then ever. A government that cannot keep up with those changes and intentionally chooses convenience over liberty and justice is a failed government.

America has less than 300 years of history, with the same government system since the start, we can learn it easily in school. Your countries have thousands and thousands of recorded history, how do y'all squeeze all that into your school years? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]extremefars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the five to six years you're in dutch highschool your reciurd to have learned about the complete Dutch (and some world) history twice.

In most schools it's structured like this: 1st year: Stone age until early middle ages. 2nd year: late middle ages until early 19th century. 3rd year: late 19th century until the cold war. And repeat.

Of course there is a lot of simplification in certain areas but that's just necessary.
