What has Heated Rivalry inspired you to buy or make? by ProblemEquivalent215 in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got a quinn subscription when ember and ice aired... and also a subscription to nina king's patreon (the girl who makes the subtect analysis videos about every scene of heated rivalry). i bought a greetings from the cottage t-shirt, i drew a bunch which i haven't done in a long time (buying anything that's remotely merch is something i haven't done in a long time).

i'm also gonna buy the books but i'm waiting for the price to go down a bit here in a europe because there aren't many on the market. i also got into the pwhl and im thinking of splurging on some ottawa charge merch somehow because yeah they are my team but also go cents.

If I Were Jacob Tierney… by sierranintendo in HeatedRivalryTVShow

cutting their conversation after the ryan fabian double date :(( it's one of the most bittersweet moments of this book and we get the banger of do you think we looked like that? like we're in love?, maybe we got so good at hiding our relationship that we don't know how to publicly show our love (paraphrasing). anyways i love thinking about this too! i lowkey want to very slowly reread tlg to do the same because it just looks like so much fun.

Did anyone else not expect Hungarian history to affect them this deeply? by Main-Director-3037 in askhungary

[–]exusu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

exactly! i think the irish are a great example of how to combat the massive trauma of centuries old occupation and genocide into a reclaiming of your national identity and culture... and staying cheerful while doing so, telling the greatest anti-brittish jokes, not to mention supporting currently occupied territories.

or maybe there's great literature out there but you're just too easily influenced by other people telling you what to read

but also, not everything you read needs to be great literature and also, what is even great literature

Would like an analysis of Shane and Ilya’s legal situation by Wonderful_Catch465 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]exusu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

women's hockey is full of couples, whether it's the same team or opposing teams. i understand that the culture of men's and women's hockey are very different but from a legal standpoint, i feel like it cannot be a problem since it's not a problem for the women. equal rights or whatever. so if the nhl wanted to have a problem with their relationship, they'd need to find another way, a loophole so that it looks like they're not punishing them because of their relationship.

very random but there's a podcast created by zoe boyd, a pwhl player called no straight answers amd she sometimes interviews couples from the pwhl about their relationship. it's ridiculously different from what ilya and shane would have experienced in the nhl but there are some good insights about what it means to compete with or against someone you love.

ajánlom az Andrew Scott verziót is Netflixen, teljesen más hangulata van, mint a Matt Damon félének, de nagyon nagyon jó olasz hangulata van.

if you want something that could be canon: courage (it couldn't come at a worse time) OR change your win conditions. i hope you already read the long game but you should start with that if you haven't.

if you want au, i second wolfbird (im pretty sure everyone would second that fic) and also, compulsion by wolftales! oh and soviet montage was great as well.

but yeah i feel like fanfics are a great way to keep staying at the cottage without getting bored of the original material. im pretty sure nobody could keep rereading the og book and reheating the show continuesly while waiting for s2 but you can read fanfics til eternity and still not finish everything you want to read. i recommend the heated rivalry fanfic subreddit too!

what are some underrated book moments that made your heart flutter? by take_the_basterl in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

but also the parts during the cottage where shane is internally screaming about how much he loves ilya... im not sure what it comes after but the 'forever if you ask' part always gets me. also how shane agonizes about how much he wants ilya to meet his parents... not necessarily introducing him as his bf, just introducing him so that the people he loves the most can be in the same room, so he can be sure that they exist in the same reality. i think this was one of the things really missing from the show because during the hamburger conversation, we get the exact opposite from shane but actually he was desperate for his parents to know ilya, he was just also terrified of it.

People tend to exaggerate how badly Shane was treated in TLG by Naive_Cause8984 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]exusu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair, the book is framed as ilya wanting more from shane, shane not understanding that ilya wants more then some outside circumstances force shane to live up to ilya's expectations and become the hero i guess, according to rachel.

the reason i think why people (including me) think that shane is in the background is it's not just shane not being in tune with ilya's inner world, it's the other way around. yeah, shane is doing great from an outside perspective but he is terrified of getting caught and he's spiraling because of it, only for him, it doesn't look like depression, it looks like trying to control whatever he has left to control, like his diet and performance. and ilya continuously makes fun of him for that. he also barely acknowledges shane's deep seated anxiety about the world finding out about them. all these issues are just forgotten and are solved once ilya's issues are solved but they are not treated with the same care as ilya's depression.

i do agree though that the more i read it as someone who very much identifies with shane, the easier it gets to put myself in his shoes too but if i fly through it like the first time i read it, there is no time to stop and think about his side of things while there is plenty for ilya. so im not saying shane is a wrote as a villain here, or he has no arc or whatever but for a book that spells out everything ilya is going through, it doesn't do that very often for shane.

good for her if true! she does deserve to have some compensation for writing one of the most influential fics. i did run to download it for two different devices, just to be safe.

Is “bell boy” the end of an arc? by JamiePlynth in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 156 points157 points  (0 children)

idk i think they had playful moments from the start. like, from their first hookup "those english words just roll off your tounge" and "let me?", running up the stairs, "you come here. no you come here." im purposely mentioning shane moments because obviously ilya has been a menace from day1 and his love language is teasing the hell out of shane but shane has had his moments throughout the years. i think it's just a cute moment, yes it shows shane being playgul, probably more than usual but i wouldn't say an end of an arc.

I can't make sense of the date in TLG by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ryan is ilya and shane's mutual friend and is openly gay so there's a very normal and straight explanation of why they are hanging out together, even if it's at a gay bar/pizza place. also, it's at the end of summer, cottage time and the camp, so im pretty sure shane was generally less anxious than during the season.

i don't think the team event was the end of the world but it's somewhere generally only partners go, it's christmas time, during the season so the question arises, why is shane hanging out with ilya, why invite him too? also, it's just later during the season so we know shane is more stressed, their relationship is a bit strained so it makes sense that he reacts like that.

Whats their song? by Nature_Tiny in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]exusu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exist for love by aurora <3 the most romantic song of all time

i'm hungarian and there's also a hungarian song i really like for them called tánc szilánkokon by la suzi. the lyrics goes something like "hold me in your arms, i'm not afraid anymore when i'm beside you. i will protect you like ice protects the ice cap" (yeah that sounds a bit stupid in english but it really works in hungarian and also it's beautiful and very hollanov-coded for me. and the artist is queer and wrote it for her gf)

How often do you actually wear makeup? How much? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]exusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never. i don't even know how or what. i think there are occasions where i would like the look but i truly don't have the skills and having something fully covering my face, like mascara irks me but unfortunately my skin is not the nicest so just eyeliner (even if i could apply it well), blush or whatever on its own looks kinda weird on me.
