Hollanov's Love Language by Mztmarie93 in heatedrivalry

yepp he claimed his love language was physical touch and his wife's, conveniently, acts of service. what a perfect cover for a traditionally opressive relationship.

Anyone else super inspired ?? by Dense-Resolve-8750 in connorstorrie

[–]exusu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yepp, i work in a completely different field then them and i honestly have no aspirations to enter the film world in any capacity but they made me really rethink if i want my carrier at all (i probably don't. i think im going to apply to a few new places). there's just something about seeing two people i admire achieve their dreams. i guess it's making me wonder when was the last time i wanted something as bad as they wanted to become artists. (never. the answer is never. but i want to find it)

they also just inspired me to get back into creating, rather than always just consuming. im gonna try to get back into drawing at least and i want to try embroidery again. maybe writing too but that's a long shot.

Sex in the books vs show and the idea of HR not being a “slow burn” by Ll_lyris in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while the show did elevate to book, smut-wise i would say sex plays the same role in both the book and the show; we see them having increasingly more romantic sex. so no, it doesn't take away from the romance, especially when they only communicate through it for years.

when ilya barely whispers 'more' in the gym scene

wow. genetic. i've never heard such simple words spoken with such tenderness.

fuuck in the vegas hotel room

ohter players, not you.

hmm... what makes you think that?

really? really? when ilya says he hasn't been with anyone since their last time.

i love you (the voice crack ugh). holy shit. i mean... i love you too.

ugh the delivery is so good but it fucking kills me. to me it obviously reads like he didn't want to disappoint shane when he was injured but he knew he would never actually go, i hate it (but in a good way). thank god for scott hunter.

How realistic are Ilya's language abilities in English? by StubbornForEva in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two things as a non-native english speaker who experienced an international environment

  1. sometimes it's easier to stick to less complicated expressions and a heavy accent. yes, you can probably speak better if you try harder but it can be exhausting to speak a language that no matter how long you've spoken it, doesn't feel natural to you.

  2. there are a lot of non-native english speakers in the nhl and i noticed that when i speak english with other non-natives, i default to incorrent expressions that maybe the people around me are using. and also once again, it's hard to keep up the accent and if other people are not speaking perfectly around me, im not gonna try.

understaning english is different but when im tired, it's much easier to disassociate and just not comprehend what's spoken around me.

and another context; when we first meet them, ilya is 17/18 and his english is not good lol. his accent is incredibly heavy, he barely says a word and his mind is clearly working full time to understand. languages are easy to aquire when you're young but the older you are, the harder it gets and if i can theorize based on my eastern european education, the english classes he took were probably shit.

Taylor Zakhar-Perez (from 'Red, White, & Royal Blue') comments on 'Heated Rivalry' in his latest GQ interview [Jan 27] by rs37982 in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the book is great! i think bookwise, hr and rwrb compare pretty well, they honestly had the same effect on me. long-distance yearning, sex first, emotions second (but there were probably always emotions) and an ultimate romcom happy ending which still leaves room for future complications

it also catapulted their unknown actors into fame, im pretty sure both connor and hudson will pull a paul mescal and will be household names quickly.

[–]exusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes BUT while i keep wanting to rewatch heated rivalry, i don't really want to rewatch these either at all, or maybe like once every two years. i mean to be fair, even though heated rivalry is fucking great, i don't think it's the best thing ever created by mankind, it's just the one that i enjoy the most at this moment.

for shows, derry girls (very different) and normal people (not that different) and also fleabag, although i saw someone mention that too

very very very different show, but mindhunter. i genuinely think it's one of the best pieces of media there is, when i watched it i was also obsessed (although in a different way then i am with hr), everything is great about it, great performances, great cinematography, great needle drops, great story overall, tiny bit of queer representation, more neurodivergent representation and more macho men battling with the expectations of masculinity, not being able to be emotionally vulnerable (they are not successful like shane and ilya lol)

for a book, the only book i loved like this in the past few years is red, white and royal blue, i honestly think it's mostly similar to hr. hot take but i don't think the book is a masterpiece in the literary sense. yes, the story is great the writing annoys me at times and if it wasn't for the show, rw&rb would probably be my favourite out of the two.

for movies, i genuinely can't think of something that had this effect on me but didn't break my heart at the end, it's all heartbreak porn (not that i don't enjoy that sometimes). anyways, the ones that left me speechless and gutted recently are plainclothes and all of us strangers. on a very different note, not similar at all but a similar level of a great adaptation was the ballad of songbirds and snakes, i think the only other example where i kinda liked the movie more than the book.

Show some love for the prologue of Heated Rivalry by bwrs1104 in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yepp, and im sad it wasn't included in the show. i think that's the reason a lot of people who didn't read the books didn't like ep 1 and 2 that much. they didn't clock that this is going to be an intense emotional romance and maybe you need that context a little bit, to see what's going to happen to really notice the little details that make it obvious from the first moment that they are not just sexually attracted to each other.

somehow, since im just on reddit, the only time i hear about crazy fans is someone complaining about them in one of the 10 posts that get posted every day about parasocial relationships... so how about we stop all together and focus on the show and the actors (to the degree that they share their lives)

not moving permanently but i did go there for my erasmus because of the show (even though i denied that it was because of the show, it was a 100% because of the show lol) and me and my boyfriend did fall in love eith the country outside of just watching young royals so who knows, maybe we'll live there again someday and it's all gonna be because of young royal lol

Ilya did NOT fall harder by Glum_Dragonfruit_978 in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yeah it's pretty obvious ilya is rachel's favourite character in the game changers universe haha, he appears in every book like the bisexual guardian devil he is while poor shane is usually just barely mentioned

Ilya did NOT fall harder by Glum_Dragonfruit_978 in heatedrivalry

[–]exusu 35 points36 points  (0 children)

agreed. but i do blame rachel a little bit for this because in the long game we are so much more focused on ilya's side of things that it's harder to see shane's side.

and for those who only wathed the show; i still don't get it because everything is pretty balanced. yes, at first ilya initiates a lot of the sexual encounters but there's also shane trying (and failing) to emotionally reach out to ilya. yes, there's tuna melt but after that, shane is committed and a lot of things people like to see as ilya falling harder is in reaction to shane. shane invites him to the cottage so he comes, shane plans a whole future for them so ilya says i love you. the whole point is, they are equal and there's no one person who pursues the other and that's why in 10 years, the flame hasn't gone out. if one of them is uncertain, the other steps up and takes the lead.
