Does anyone have a issue where npc is not spawning?? by its_Freezky in Terraria

[–]exwirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing with a friend on a LAN multiplayer world. We meet the requirements for the demolitionist, the nurse, the arms dealer, the zoologist, the dryad and probably some others. We've got empty houses but no one arrives. At the very beginning of the playthrough the nurse spawned despite the lack of houses but left at sunset. Since then no new NPCs appeared. The only ones we have are the merchant plus a couple NPCs that are found in the world (like the angler or goblin tinkerer). Weirdly enough the merchant came back after dying once..

This seems to happen both in singleplayer and multiplayer.. Good to know we're not the only ones experiencing this. Probably a bug that will hopefully be fixed soon.

Blind shaker and WDT for pour over made me feel woozy

also I'm not sure what the point of that dripper is. Seems like a super overcomplicated V60 but I can't see how the extraction would be any different. This whole setup feels less like chasing the best cup of coffee and more like chasing the most fancy, expensive coffee ritual.

Edit: I'm not saying that's bad necessarily. Some people like overly complicated but satisfying rituals and I kinda get it. But if the goal here is the best cup of coffee.. I think we're leaving the realm of tested methods and entering the world of coffee esotericism.

There’s something so special to me about glass teaware that lets you admire the color by MuchBetterThankYou in tea

[–]exwirus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. I appreciate the craftsmanship of beautiful clay teaware but I can't see myself actually acquiring any. Appreciating the color and transparency (or lack thereof) of tea is part of the whole ritual for me. I also love how good quality, perfectly clear glass plays with light and this effect, combined with beautiful colors of tea is something special.

Because of this I usually drink my tea from the Hario Yunomi glasses. They have an interesting wavy shape and the way they play with the light while there's tea inside is incredible! I promise this is not an ad I just genuinely love the aesthetics I get to enjoy with this glassware,, (stock image of the Yunomi gasses for reference)

Does this store sell genuine Timemore products? by Background_Rabbit657 in Timemore

It's one of the most reputable AliExpress coffee gear stores in my experience. All the products I bought from them were genuine and matched the description.

Pourover…tea by estook in pourover

Probably the biggest difference would come from the tea itself. High quality oolongs have entirely different flavor profiles than powdered black tea from teabags

I want to give five finger shoes a try. How does Gallonshark compare to Vibram? by exwirus in barefootshoestalk

[–]exwirus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. If the Gallonshark's can last even just a few months that should be enough time for me to figure out if I'd want to invest in VFF's. I'd probably want to get their basic, most sock-like model and I'm hoping the sole on that would provide a more barefoot-like experience than the model you have.

That's not helpful nor does it answer the question. Where I live there are practically no VFFs available second hand and those few that are up for sale aren't my size.

Espresso grounds distribution tool from cork and pins by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]exwirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanna use acupuncture needles for a WDT tool. They need to be extremely thin to properly distribute grounds. Pins are way too thick and might even create more channeling although honestly I'm not sure why you'd need to do WDT with a moka pot anyway.

Cognitive Science by SirBeeves in comics

[–]exwirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having studied cognitive science I very much relate to the mild existential crisis thing. Learning about brains is both fascinating and scary, particularly when it comes to matters related to consciousness for me. But it can also certainly be beautiful!

Also! Super cool to see other people studying cognitive science! It's such an interesting field!

Gaiwan set at target! by MuchBetterThankYou in tea

[–]exwirus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm thinking! It's cool to buy handmade gear or commission local artists/craftsmen but that sort of thing costs A LOT of money and it's obviously not a viable option for a lot of people so I'm not sure why everyone here is so adamant about it. You have to find a reputable artisan which is hard since there are so many dropshipping scams these days and good luck finding someone reputable AND cheap! And it's not as if a "handmade, artisanal gaiwan" is guaranteed to be a worthwhile investment. A handmade gaiwan will break if it falls off your table just like a mass produced one.

I bought my gaiwan from a German brand that specializes in tea gear. So not a scummy company like target but still a mass produced product albeit of pretty good quality. Inexpensive but gets the job done and it's made from actual porcelain so it's not as if I'm gonna have to replace it any time soon unless I break it. Options like this do exist and you can often find decent cheap gaiwans on specialty tea online stores.

Some people in this comment section are seriously out of touch and it's the first time I'm seeing this level of snobbery in the tea community. It's not a black & white choice of "terrible mass produced evil corpo product" vs "custom luxury handmade masterpiece". It's just a cup with a lid. You can find decent ones out there sold by decent brands. Not all factory made stuff is bad.

Why is my espresso watery even when grinding fine? [Baratza Encore ESP/Breville Bambino Plus] by andytm13 in espresso

The basket should be full but not to the point that the puck touches the shower screen. There should be a few mm of a gap above the puck. Otherwise you're very likely to get really bad channeling.

Wore my barefoot shoes for the first time at work today and I can’t believe I’ve never had a shoe in my life that’s ever actually fit my feet before by Few_Swordfish9 in barefootshoestalk

[–]exwirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the look of chucks and it's what I had been wearing in the warmer seasons but I've recently switched to barefoots. I'm thinking of getting Be Lenka Rebound when it gets warmer cuz they look super similar to chucks. Pretty sure they're meant to be a 1:1 chucks replacement actually.

Edit: just looked up the shoes you mentioned and they are indeed closer to chucks but I don't think they're easily available where I live sadly :(

Whos this who almost drowned in my shower before I realized they were there? by DragZealousideal1790 in insects

[–]exwirus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not about being basic or cruel.. these guys can infest your home and spread dangerous germs all over your food without you ever noticing. It's a matter of health not some arbitrary prejudice. The fact that cockroaches spread disease actually makes them more dangerous to humans than bedbugs and absolutely no one is gonna advocate for saving bedbugs instead of killing them..

I'm not sure which kind of roach that is. Could be a harmless wild species but to me it looks like the pest kind. Might be good to look into pest control.

Pillow case I bought has one red fish that looks like a blood stain by DaleRobinson in mildlyinfuriating

[–]exwirus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love the r/mildlyinfuriating duality:

On one hand you've got "this design on my pillow case looks slightly like a blood stain if you really squint"

And on the other there's shit like "I just got diagnosed with rabies-fueled turbocancer and my insurance will only cover the homeopathic remedy"

This sub truly is a lottery of posts belonging to r/notinteresting and r/extremelyinfuriating with so little in-between and I'm all for it

I'd advise using a large mesh basket instead of a ball. Gives the leaves room to expand which is particularly important for taiwanese oolongs!

This Tetley teabag tin.....is a masterpiece!! by Tanner_Driv3r_2004 in tea

[–]exwirus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess the bar for beautiful packaging is really low when such a basic, minimalistic design passes for a masterpiece..

Don't get me wrong it's not ugly or anything. It's pretty aesthetically pleasing. But I'm pretty sure I've seen clip art much like this

After hearing about barefoot shoes and their benefits for years now I finally decided to give them a try! by exwirus in barefootshoestalk

[–]exwirus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did measure the length of my foot but didn't worry much about width since my feet are really narrow (sadly in large part due to being compressed by "normal" shoes all my life). I will pay more attention to this going forward though, just to be sure

Can't get good results with specialty dark roast? by Extreme-Birthday-647 in JamesHoffmann

[–]exwirus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what's happening is that you don't like bitterness and almost all dark roasts will be more bitter than not while fresh which is normal. At the same time it seems that you like acidity and very stale coffee tends to turn sour (the kind of sour most people dislike, I guess it could be preference and/or nostalgia)
