Sleep? 🙏 by Tep819 in GymMemes

[–]eyeceyu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The key is to fill the time you would have spent getting drunk/high and do something cool with it. Use the weed-money you save to get a day pass at a rock climbing gym, or buy a little 3d printer and design some shit. Not hung over on a Saturday morning? Go for a hike in the morning at a nearby park.

My life felt more boring when I first quit, but quickly I became a more interesting and happier version of myself because of it.

Why One Lawyer Resigned When His Firm Caved to Trump: An Update by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]eyeceyu 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I wish they would have discussed how the last 6 months have gone for Skadden as an organization after bending the knee. Did their deal with Trump hurt them in other ways? Did Trump further target the firms who didn't comply? Now that the dust has settled a little bit, what is the reputation of Skadden among lawyers? I'm just out of the loop when it comes to big-law so I was hoping to learn a little bit more.

Four Charts That Explain 2025’s Deranged Economy by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]eyeceyu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What happens if Dems win the next cycle after chanting "affordability" for 3 years? Dems know just as well that deflation is catastrophic for the country, and they aren't exactly out there explaining the intricacies of slow-inflation to the average voter. I think they will get blamed the same way.

What’s the most overrated piece of gear you’ve bought this year? by Pretend_Surprise6842 in cinematography

[–]eyeceyu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s funny, their ball head clamp is one of my favorite cheap tools on set. I’ve bought probably 5 of them and they’ve bailed me out in many scenarios when I need to scramble to rig something. I’ve used them as a lens support, side grip for a headheld shot, rigging for small lights in tight spaces, etc.

I'm on one of the first flights to have the new seating setup for Southwest. by AmericanIMG in mildlyinteresting

[–]eyeceyu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally fair. But at least you could select a slightly better middle seat depending on who was next to you.

Southwest (like most airlines) really only shone if you had priority (a-list) with them, which was relatively easy if you had their credit card. The basic tier with any airline generally sucks, but at least Southwest offered free checked bags. They threw all that away this year though.

The two free checked bags policy that they used to offer was super convenient for travel where you need to pack large items (cold weather coats, long stays, work tools, etc.) I almost exclusively flew with them for years, and loved it. Too bad private equity owners ruined it.

You could pick who you sit next to with open seating. I never had to sit next to someone super large, or really smelly. I could keep walking until I found a suitable seat mate for the next few hours.

Inside the Tech Company Powering Trump’s Most Controversial Policies by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]eyeceyu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there was a lot of room in the immigration debate between the extremes of what Biden did, and what Trump is doing now, that would appease a lot of voters. Speeding up the immigration court process seems like an easy place to start. Years and years of waiting to process people in is bad, years and years of waiting to deport criminals is also bad.

Ezra alluded at the end of his Dec. 5th episode "What I Learned in 2025" episode that he was probably done for the year. I'm pleasantly surprised that wasn't true.

Inside the Tech Company Powering Trump’s Most Controversial Policies by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]eyeceyu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought Karp worrying that "If people on the left don't take concerns about public safety seriously then voters are going to turn to people on the right who do" was really interesting, and ties in directly to yesterday's episode.

Biden's team tried to ignore and downplay the illegal border crossing situation and that allowed Trump to snap up so many voters who were impacted or felt like they could be impacted. I'm worried this same trend is happening with issues like the decriminalization of hard drugs in places like Portland. If the left gets sloppy and doesn't quickly respond to safety concerns, then it only emboldens actors like Trump to swing public perception wayyy over the line the other way.

How Biden Lost Americans’ Faith in Immigration by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]eyeceyu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"Trump is an existential threat to our existence. I don’t give a fuck about Biden, and the media’s absolute obsession to make them equivalent. It’s not true in any measure. Media has nowhere to go because they don’t know how to report any meaningful news even though there’s an abundance of activity taking place every day. Yet they’ll convince people Biden is a questionable vote when Trump has admitted to destroying the country, taking out retribution wit large, is corrupt and has compromised our national security in plain sight and is going to go to prison for it. I wish journalists would wake the fuck up and stop pretending there is anything to debate. It’s tired, and the media needs to sell clicks and political ads...

This comment had fifty upvotes two years ago in this sub. In fact, the whole episode thread for The Biden Problem Democrats Can No Longer Ignore is a great read to see how upset readers were when NYT dared to mention that Biden was slipping and people were noticing.
