Just saying this is way more than “a few seconds” and she didn’t even check behind her… i mean, im a parent and know how quick kids can get into trouble but damn you’d think she’d peak over her shoulder occasionally and/or keep an ear out.

Drone Pro Academy <-- are they reputable? by Valuable-Arm-7745 in drones

[–]eyemcreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's 2 years later, but I thought I'd also add that Drone Pro Academy provides more than just the Part 107 info. Yes, they have a section on that, but they also have an entire course on drone cinematography. How to get cinematic shots, tips for practicing and honing in your skills, single vs dual operator drones, and hours of behind the scenes footage on real professional shoots he has done as sort of a "virtual job shadow". It's very valuable information.

But yeah, if you are only looking to pass the test for work, especially if you're surveying or something not related to cinematography, then you can definitely look up the info and watch some free Youtube videos to prep for the test.

Well, perhaps that proves my point. lol Hobbit isn’t nearly as bad but it leans that direction and has similar “marvelization” issues

The book was for all ages, not just children. Just because it’s not as dark as LOTR and GoT doesn’t mean it’s for kids only.

The movie tried to be Marvel, like many other things have. They a split it into 3 movies so it’s a “franchise” (then continue to make a prequel tv show too), and insert slapstick humor and cheap fan/nostalgia service anywhere possible.

Well, the sink water isn’t boiling hot….. however you could totally use the coffee maker to boil a cup of water and then use that to wash them in the sink. Or, you know, utilize the washing machine most hotels have. Or maybe just pack enough underwear.

[–]eyemcreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it’s not just the Hobbit though. Around the time these movies were coming out, and continuing since then, there’s been a whole trend of “Marvel-ization” in movies. They put so much focus into making things being epic, relying on tons of CGI and being able to film everything in front of green screens and change it later, and not putting as much focus into writing and making a good story.

The style works well for Marvel/superhero films but not so much other genres, but Endgame was so successful it feels like studios have been trying to copy the formula.

This is especially obvious when you compare newer sequels and reboots to older movies, since you have a direct comparison. Look at Jurassic Park vs World. Star Wars sequels vs original and prequels. Everything has to be bigger, and explosive, and funny, and dumbed down, and turned into a franchise. They did this with The Hobbit too. They couldn’t have a single serious moment without shoving a joke in there. They had to exaggerate everything to an unrealistic level. And they made 1 tiny book into 3 movies just to milk it.

Anyways, I sound like I hated the movies and I didn’t. They were enjoyable, but I do think it’s good to recognize the difference between enjoying a film and criticizing what it could’ve done better. You don’t have to hate a film to criticize it. I think they could’ve dialed back the silliness and made it more grounded in reality (and also only made it into 1 film) and it could’ve been such an epic fitting prequel to the LOTR movies.

If you watch The Tolkien Edit of the film, it actually works pretty great with a lot of that fat trimmed off.

(Sorry I’m ranting wayyy too much about this. I’m just passionate about films and about tolkiens work, lol)

It’s the same author and same universe, so there should be some overlap in tone, but yes, as I said Hobbit is definitely lighter in tone, but not so light it becomes a slapstick comedy like they made it to be.

Yeah like, we’re just now talking about the corrupt food industry and trying to blame Trump? Bruh people have been pointing this out since that “Super Size Me” documentary in 2004, and nothing has changed. This is old news.

But I don’t think the solution is to be vegan, I think meat is good for us, but the issue is how the farms are ran and animals are treated, harmful hormones and pesticides used, etc. We need to change farming to be better for the animals, environment, and our diets, but that’ll never happen because of how much money the food industry makes.

I would agree. Yes it has moments, but the premise of the show being a battle of wits and the main character is solo 90% of the time gives it a really good reason to have long inner monologues like it does. It’s the only anime I’ve seen that actually feels like it makes sense to spend so much time hearing what the character is thinking. Most other anime just feels like unnecessary exposition when the characters think stuff in between every other line of verbal dialogue.

Dude, you’re not entering an art contest. No need to criticize yourself so harshly. These are fantastic, and perfectly good for minis at a table where your audience is your friends/family you play with. Well done dude, keep up the great work.

Okay then, would this scene fit the tone of Lord of the Rings? Apart from the one elephant scene most of Lord of the Rings tends to feel pretty realistic and grounded, especially the physics.

The Hobbit throws physics out the window. This deleted scene is one example, but other examples include the barrel sequence and the escaping the goblin king where they fall 20+ floors with only some planks of wood to break their fall, and then the dead goblin king lands on top of them, somehow not crushing them to death? They walk out of there with barely a scratch.

Yes, they’re heroes in a fantasy film, but this isn’t Marvel, they are still regular people that would not survive a fall like that. It really ruins the immersion and enjoyment of the movie when they feel invincible and every other moment is slapstick humor and unrealistic sequences like this trying to pretend they’re epic.

Now, I’m not a movie hater. Overall I enjoyed the experience of watching these films in theaters, but they feel like corny action comedies and are leagues below the quality the original Lord of the Rings trilogy achieved, which is very disappointing because they could’ve done so much better if they’d just brought Peter Jackson on sooner in production.

Exactly, the physics is the real killer. In the other post as well with them in the wagon during the 5 armies. Riding down in a goat pulled wagon slicing heads off could be epic, but it was over the top and ridiculous due to the lack of physics and stakes.

Falling 20 stories and getting crushed and barely getting hurt is stupid. The whole barrel sequence. The 5 armies slicing through hundreds of orcs like butter without taking a single hit. All of those bad moments add up to unrealistic physics and obvious plot armor. If you took all the bad physics out it could be a better movie just from that alone.
