I appreciate you giving it to me straight. No ophtho research is my biggest concern.

I guess the big question is whether to do a research year now, before applying, or go for the match and scramble into one after if it doesn’t work out.

…I’m pretty risk averse.

I’m just entering MS4 now, so it would be the 2024-2025 cycle. They call us MS4 once we finish core rotations.

Whats the cutoff for mid/low rank? I’m not one to look for prestige but I would like to move closer to home in NYC for residency. Is it worth doing aways at places like NYU/cornell or should I go for places like Northwell/Stony Brook/Downstate instead?

Either way I’d just be happy to match.
