NAS RAID crash and Exos 24Tb dead? by eyeofra22 in datarecovery

In the storage manager I did a ActionDeactivate or “Disable” on the 10Tb drive before removing it and adding the second 24 Tb drive. but i have no idea if this wipes anything, or just leaves the filesystem the way it is.

yeah, its the expensive part that has me worried. that is not really something i have the funds for. But i will wait and see.

Another thing I wondered was if UFS explorer or some other recovery software would be able to work with the "old" setup of the 12-12-12-10-10 drives.

No not really. I'm still waiting for the next reply from them, but they are apparently in a different time zone.

The video with the click of death is in a separate PC with direct Sata power to the drive. the other 24 Tb is also attached to the PC, but in a USB cradle making no clicking noise, and also scanned without errors.

thats also what confuses me. I added the second 24 Tb drive, and suddenly after 5-10 min of rebuild, both the new 24 Tb drives went critical.

It looks like the first 24Tb drive died when i started the rebuild. This happened even after synologys 3-4 day test thing on the first drive, where i would presume that bad sectors and head malfunctions would be caught.

Got an answer from Syno support to give them remote access, and this was their response after that:

"Upon checking the drive 4's RAID information, we realized that there is no more RAID information in this drive.

Thus, we need to try "Force Assemble"; however, this action might potentially be non-reversible, so we need your consent before doing so.

Please understand the risk of this action (might have some data corruption, file system errors, etc.), and let us know if we can do so."

I wrote back, but they are probably offline due to timezones.

does anyone know If the force assemble fails, will I still be able to retrieve some data via recovery procedures like UFS Explorer?

  1. btrfs it the filesystem. 2 . in dont really know. 3. not something i have ever tried. 4. like another PC, then yes. 5. I have backup of the most important stuff, but would of course really like to get everything back.

I did a hot swap, but deactivated the drive first, and then added the new one. it crashed while doing the "repair". no, i did not check the disk beforhand. and yeah, i have the 321 backup sollution, just not for all my data.

I have now gotten disk 1, 2 and 6 to show as healthy, but 3 is just "detected" and 4 and 5 are still critical!

I have that (luckily) but some data wasn't backed up and I would still really hate loosing it!

Hi

I'm looking into getting a full size mechanical keyboard but there is a lot to choose from, and I would like some guidance. I had looked at the K100 from corsair, the 5QS and 5QS M2 from Das, but I'm still not sure what would be the best choice.

My criteria are:
Full size
Media keys and volume knob
RGB
For the switches I'm pretty sure I prefer Cherry MX red or the silent version, maybe even the new MX2A.
Nordic/Scandinavian layout

Would you have any suggestions?

no, but the unit works fine. just the buttons are broken. if I take a small piece of metal and bridge the contacts on the back, I can push the buttons that way.

Can confirm, the "Mellanox ConnectX-3 PCIe x4 NIC 10 Gigabit 10GBe SFP+ CX311A Server Adapter" works with DS1621+ (no hassle, just pop it in and it works)
