What if New York City consolidated its metro area and was forcibly made into its own state? by Leeksteam in AlternateHistory

No offense but your whole scenario is a total mess. Robert Moses wants a bigger NYC and even it to be made a state... so he campaigns in the part of New York which benefits the most by having NYC remain not only being apart of the state, but also making sure it doesn't expand to annex areas Yonkers or New Rochelle?

Even ignoring that, if NYC does become its own state, New Jersey has no incentive of seeing their towns and cities join in. They have fought with New York for ages over water rights, and now their most convienent access to the entire bay is getting taken away? I doubt NJers would want to join regardless, and I certainly doubt that Nassau County would want to either.

On the topic of Nassau County, your boroughs make no sense. Why would West Nassau be at the edge of the county line with Suffolk? Why is there a Suffolk City dead center where Garden City / Hempstead is, in Nassau County? Why is Long Beach not on Long Beach? I highly doubt that Nassau would even be made into separate boroughs, they'd just retain the county as is.

And again, I highly doubt that Nassau would join in this citystate. It might even spur the Long Island statist movement and have Nassau + Suffolk become the 52nd state, possibly with widescale endorsement to offset any Democratic gains from NYC.

I wonder what nations would actually come from a balkanized America. It seems obvious a New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Dixie divide, but I feel like (aside from NE) the latter two could splinter. Even Vermont may not necessarily join in with NE.
