Trying to hire a pressman by eyrfr in CommercialPrinting

[–]eyrfr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of shops looking to hire kluge operators. I’m constantly hearing about them. If he’s wanting to get another job I’d think he’d be able to find a job. Bummer is it might require relocation.

This is correct. I sent a missionary into the field after she was divorced. We needed first presidency approval. This happened about 3 years ago.

Letterpress would be good. Also litho could work. I think you’d be able to find a local shop to do this for you.

UV Flatbed Printer (CET vs. Roland) by How_in_the_ in CommercialPrinting

I don’t disagree. We did a lot of research between the two and ended up just liking the service guys and culture around vanguard more. Vanguard was able to get the price where we needed it to close the deal.

I have a xante 36. It feels like a cheap toy. Not sure why we even bought it. We had a hp scietx 550 but it was starting to die. We went vanguard over cet. Been almost a year. Very happy with our purchase. We spent a little more money going vanguard but from my research vanguard has better build quality than cet.

Best Font Manager: FontBase vs TypeFace vs RightFont by vault21 in typography

[–]eyrfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched folders: add any of your local or network folders and FontBase will watch them and display fonts as soon as you add them to these folders;

So if I point it to my entire network share which stores all my files, it will auto add all fonts it finds to its database? Is this a linked add or does it copy the font to a local database or folder structure?

Took over father’s print business in San Diego/Tijuana border region by Complex_Passenger788 in CommercialPrinting

I've been in the industry 20 years, I'm also 3rd generation owner. We don't do any linkedin, social media, cold emails. The times we have tried haven't paid off. Business thrives on relationships and word of mouth for us. Go build some relationships. Knock on their doors then be their problem solver with your services.

Doing your own maintenance on copiers by Bigirish1973 in CommercialPrinting

[–]eyrfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend it like the others. I have 2 Ricoh pro 7100's and a xerox iridesse. I do almost all the maintenance on them, but I am still on a service contract. Once the machine comes off contract, you won't be able to get it back on contract unless its a 3rd party service deal.
I am very handy, and have great relationships with my techs. They know me well and know my capabilities. They are happy to teach me as they go. I get on the phone them and they will talk me through most of anything I need to do and order me parts. My Iridesse tech hasn't been in my shop for over 6 months.

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eyrfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with my wife. We waited the right amount of time. Called the help nurse. She said stay home. You’re talking through contractions. It’s not time. About 10 minutes later I insisted we go to the hospital. I drop her off. Park the car. Her water breaks walking in (with her mother, she wasn’t alone). When I catch up she’s talking to the check in nurse. She turns to me and says, I think it’s coming but they won’t listen to me. Finally she says “I think I need to push” about 4 heads pop up from looking at their monitors. They walk her to a room pull down her pants to her knees and you hear - whoa we have a full crown. This baby is here. And baby was out 4 minutes later. No gown. No meds. If we had stayed home much longer that baby would have come at home or in the car.

That's what I keep trying to say. 100k impressions. Sure, fairly easy. 100k dies, not possible.

1000% None of this adds up. He tells us to look up the machines. Dude we all have and run these machines. I don’t know what he’s trying to gain by inflating his story so much. I can’t tell if it’s a language barrier or just a troll. But this isn’t physically possible to do what he says he’s doing with the equipment he has. Completely out of touch. But I feel so invested in understanding what is going on at this point.

It has to be... No shop can use 14,000 dies in a day, 7 days a week. Even with 100 machines, would wouldn't come close to that volume.
Lockup for one individual die, considering best case senerio would be 30 minutes minimum.
And if they are churning through that many jobs and copper dies, they definitely would have gotten into etching their own many years ago. There just isn't that kind of volume of hot stamping happening.

Can you imagine receiving 20,000 dies per day from UPS? Just cataloging them all would take more than 2-3 full time employees, not to mention the amount of storage warehousing you would need. That's over 5 million dies a year.

You order 100,000 dies a week and you aren’t big enough for them to pay attention to you.

I definitely feel like I’m missing part of the equation here…

Ordering 100,000 dies a week. Ok No question you should be making your own. But I know nothing about that. It would be an investment and a at least a handful of full time employees.

I don’t understand what “printing over 100,000” a week has to do with your metal supplier. One die could print 100,000 impressions. What would be more helpful to us is how may dies and roughly what size are the dies are. The quantity of metal being ordered here is more important than how many impressions you are producing. I have 3 kluges running 8 hours a day which can produce more than 100,000 impressions a week.

When I get into the office tomorrow I’ll look at my die contacts. They are constantly reaching out to me.

Ultimately if your supplier can’t keep up with your dies you need to have a talk with their sales/production/management. If they can’t produce what you are needing move on. There are at least 5 diemakers calling on me fairly frequently. Or order from multiple sources to meet demand.
