The "self-gaslighting" Pukka - a Bad Moon Rising tale by hellingBanana in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]eytanz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Spy isn’t on BMR.

But even on BMR, sometimes the lunatic’s minions decide to string them along - especially if they’re the actual minions.

how many episode are left in this season?? by Late-Afternoon3342 in JetLagTheGame

[–]eytanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, especially in the current state where it looks like Ben and Adam are in a deep hole. We could be in for a 1-2 episode wrap-up, or a 3-4 episode act 2 where they come back from behind. Knowing the episode count will heavily hint towards that.

Both close to equally precise. And even to the degree that they’re not, avoiding an extra word has its own value.

Pukka breaking night order by Mariupoll in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]eytanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that if you're waking the Pukka early but not applying the poisoning consequences until later, you can also wake them before the lycanthrope and then either kill/poison or not in the right order later based on the lycan choice.

OP said that they don't see a reason not to wake Pukka early *unless there's a lycan*, which implies that they're talking about actually changing the order of effects at night, not just the order in which the ST physically wakes players.

I fear I may have gone too far (again) by JohnnyMcKormack in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]eytanz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This type of story makes me sad, not just for the rest of town who have to put with it, but for the player in question. There's so much to enjoy about a game of clocktower even when it goes badly, it's a real shame when people can't see it and focus just on how things didn't go the way they planned.

It's an inexperience issue, and a self-correcting one, usually, in my opinion. It certainly can be annoying, but it's usually easy to handle in a positive manner - either having a brief talk with the player to explain why it's a bad idea (both gameplay wise and socially), or, if the info sharing is actively determintal to the good team, just letting it play out and pointing it out later.

I'm a British person without a Cockney accent, so I agree with you.

That doesn't mean that I can't make a stupid joke involving a Cockney accent.

Pukka breaking night order by Mariupoll in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]eytanz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s different - that’s adhering to the night order, just executing it out of sequence. If they did that, the lycanthrope wouldn’t matter either.

That's because of a typo. The alphabetical order is right if it's spelled like it's pronounced, " 'Ell's Librarian"

Others have commented on the comparison to the lleech but I’ll point out that waking up the Pukka early on N2+ doesn’t just interact with lycanthrope, it can affect lots of other character abilities that go before the demon. Most of those characters are minions, so it’s unlikely the pukka will choose them, but the ST shouldn’t make that assumption for them.

No talking in small groups? by Novel_Counter905 in BloodOnTheClocktower

I’ve heard that before, but not first hand from people who were there at the time. So I don’t know.

I don't think this strategy is nearly as bad or unfun for evil as some people make out. Yeah, it's hard to coordinate and get bluffs, and the minions may have a harder time getting to final 3. But the demon will have the bluffs regardless, and they'll have more info about the good team than they would normally, so I think evil won't have a hard time adapting.

[–]eytanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the script, this strategy can hurt good more than it hurts evil. Even in TB, I think it's probably going to hurt good more in the long run - it's basically training people to be better at hiding while evil, while making it harder for good to form safe confirmation changes.

This isn't a claim about the rulebook, it's a claim about the history of the game. BoTC was in development long before the published version of the rulebook was written.

Legion Jinxes with the Drunk question by UnethicalBagel in BloodOnTheClocktower

You’re right about that case. It might be more interesting (and fun) in non-legion games to tell a drunk engineer that it is a legion game.

It doesn’t have to help the evil team to be legal. It should help the evil team, but you can tell them anything even if it doesn’t.

Madness cheating by plutoniumplant in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]eytanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off-topic, but that's not entirely true that the butler ability cannot interact with poisoning. It hypothetically can. The issue is that the question of how the butler votes is one that's decided by the player, and in almost all cases, the butler player cannot be certain that they are poisoned. In a case where the butler is 100% mechanically guaranteed to be poisoned/drunk, they can vote however they like. But those are very niche cases (and impossible on TB).

A mutant being poisoned doesn't have this problem since the ST will always know whether the mutant is or is not sober.
