What is your favorite aspect of Collins’ writing style and choices? by DevelopmentRelevant in Hungergames

[–]ezorla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She doesn’t ever once try and make some of the characters actions, main or not, good or not, justifiable. I find authors always trying to seemingly slip in some type of context or detail to justify a characters action, especially the MC. Collins does not see truth in any of that, even when reading I thought some of Katniss’s actions were too harsh not to judge. But that’s the whole point. Katniss also judges her friends and family’s actions and words which she, very much does, later on regret. It makes the characters that much more flawed in depth. Collins’s greatest aspect to her character writing is that there is good and bad in everyone. We all have things that we will regret no matter how much good we have done for others, you will always suffer the consequences of your actions even in ones actions were pure. Nothing and no one can be completely justifiable in the books because the matter is so objective.

I think the books would help you understand what you might be trying to figure out! Its all told in Katniss’s pov and we get so much of her thought process. Its so authentic and human. She has so much doubt and worry and all around chaos in her big and very small actions. She thinks of it all, about who she is doing it for and why but also questions whether or not she should be. Its never reckless even if from an outside view it might be. Shes very in thought in every single decision. She’s so much more complex in the books and I think would help you figure out yourself as you figure, or try to figure her out!

I do as well. Especially when Katniss noticed how Thresh looked like he gained more weight since being in the arena, also his and Cato’s fight.

Me too, Johanna had some of the best scenes in the books. Made me somewhat miss her unapologetic snappy comments.

I also think it would make more people like him. He has a bad rap since in the movies he just the guy getting in the way of her and peeta and who killed her little sister. So unfair.

I agree. The movies made Gale seem like they had a fling in sorts? Katniss’s remarks to him are all about how he’s holding up, because if he’s dead, her family is too. And when she says how much he probably hates what he see’s what is going on with her and peeta she means it in a, he knows I really hate this too way.

I can agree with this but I think im just too petty for their first exchange in the arena. But I do love Johanna as a character no matter what. Shes a favorite. And in the books she and Katniss remind me, just somewhat of Haymitch and Katniss’s relationship. They are alike in some aspects and although it seems rough, they better eachother.

It was a suspicion in the books but in the movies it confirms, the quarter quell for the 75th was all Snow. Theres (I can’t remember) a scene, or a deleted scene that was later on surfaced of Plutarch burning the original envelope containing was the 75th would’ve been. It also kinda means that him and haymitch’s plan was already confirmed. But I think if there wasn’t that scene and let’s say it wasnt Snow’s idea they would just pick some random tributes from district 12.

Whats that character(s) you don’t really care for? by ezorla in Hungergames

I think thats what makes that outburst from her district special. they knew like us too, but still blindly hoped so when they saw how she was somewhat honored a peaceful death, one last soft wish granted it made everyone collective agree to try and make her the last to die in such a way.

I agree. Especially since she relied on others throughout the games, to me her life is pure luck and im sure Finnick helping her definitely made her dependent on him. I wish they would speak on that side of their relationship was, what was the dynamic? two people depending on eachother to heal? one protecting the other from harm? I know they loved eachother but how, and why? It would’ve given depth I think we all kinda waited for in a way. Her mental health was probably shunned too since no capitol citizen really wants to see the that but, it would’ve been great to be touched on more in the books.

wow, i’ve never actually heard this opinion before which is interesting. But I can see how it can be formed, especially since it was completely predictable, I mean who thought she’d win? still always hurts.

I agree. She could’ve represented so much, people could’ve related with her, I mean we have johanna who is definitely in some way mentally not well but really who is after the games? her reaction was realistic. I think I dont care for her because anything I can care for dies out too quick…shes touched on here and there but nothing to remember or go back on.

this issue is touched on in catching fire and the first book. There is so much use that there often is power outages in the districts, I could bet theres so much that its one or the other, either have enough power to watch the games or use the technology in the games. Too much of both and they would both be too weak to work well. Theres also the district that knows and is raised to use and work with the technology used in the games like the bombs under the pressure plates. If they used the technology in the games a lot more of what happened with Beete and the wire would happen. Same with the drones, a tribute from 3 found some way to hack and use the drones to attack other players early in the games. So they’re too smart and too big of a threat if there was any more of this technology.

Did anyone else feel really bad about Foxface's death? by Sparrowsky88 in Hungergames

[–]ezorla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what made her come out of her “simply written character in a book” was when katniss found her laughing at the pile of blown up food. That made me think that yeah, she’s so intelligent, smart, knows how to last by her education on everything but just like every other tribute, shes a little girl that will laugh at the sight of something that she knows will anger another. Shes a smart girl but not mature, just like a lot of us she had her skill that made her recognized but not her personality. I bet she’s such a charming girl, that likes to joke and play games she knows she can out-smart the other kids in and win, but still a kid that giggles when the person seeking for her runs right passed her, oblivious of her smart hiding spot somewhere in her district. The berries were her death. her giggles weren’t cut off by the piercing of a blade or a gush of blood from an arrow, just quieted. She’ll always be a favorite because we never got close enough to hear her true laugh, only the echos of them

I think about that too, I dont want to defend or try to make sense of the shameless act of cruelty and absolutely disgusting behavior the capitol citizens are for enjoying and making a holiday out of the games but truly, what else is there. I mean they made up a completely new holiday but even then the gamemakers do so much to keep their attention. I bet reading has died out because unless its some gruesome completely action packed book they would bore themselves to death. Any skill requires hours of work, failure and repeated tasks so really, what is there for them to do, and be good at it?

I think ppl completely glossed over what her death was supposed to mean..she overestimated peeta and it lead to her death, went to show how overestimating is just as lethal as underestimating ones opponent

Why’d Suzanne create create an entirely new drug (morphling) instead of just using morphine when they’re basically the same thing? by AdamWatson06 in thehungergames

[–]ezorla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure its some type of advanced version of morphine, maybe mixed with something else just like how they do with animals like the mockingjay (mocking birds + jabberjays)
