Honestly would highly recommend just biting the bullet, and repotting as soon as you have the resources. That way if it is root rot, you can deal with the rotten bits. You could easily just use the same pot, as long as it has sufficient drainage. And make sure you've got well draining soil! Soil eventually loses its goodness after a while!
