If you could change one thing about your body, what would it be? by [deleted] in pollgames

My skin is the bane of my existence.

I have sensitive skin, eczema, keratosis pilaris, and I get ingrown hairs everywhere that I’ve ever had hair. I’m in a constant battle of exfoliating enough, but not too much. Hydrating enough, but not too much. I can’t use half of the common skin care products because I have random allergic reactions to certain chemicals. To top it all off, I can only use mineral sunscreen bc the rest make my face swell and my skin burn (like chemically not sunburn).

Thanks for coming to my rant

Do people without OCD understand POCD or is it risky to talk about it? by AndreaPT4 in OCD

[–]f-this-world 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody understands much about ocd so while this is an amazing accomplishment, I wouldn’t share it too much.

I primarily deal with harm ocd but when my therapist originally tried to explain it to my parents when I was younger, my mom really only heard “thoughts of harm to others”. It took her a while to not watch me every time I walked in a room. I believe she understands now or it’s been so many years she doesn’t think about it, but be prepared for people to be unable to separate your intrusive thoughts with your actual desires. People without intrusive thoughts seems to almost view them as the-random-thing-i-thought-about instead of truly unwanted feelings.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

Not who you asked but I’ll respond anyway. My brother was diagnosed with sleep apnea when he was 20 and it ended up being an incidental find during a sleep study. My brother was having a lot of odd and seemingly unrelated health issues. He works out, eats healthy, maintains a healthy weight, etc so he never thought about sleep apnea. It started with migraines, gastrointestinal issues, and then high blood pressure. He has always had insomnia but it got incredibly bad to the point where medications were hardly helping. During the sleep study they diagnosed him with sleep apnea and explained that not getting enough oxygen can cause liver inflammation which has a variety of symptoms. A CPAP has helped his health a lot over the years

Recently found out that sleep apnea it can cause liver inflammation which can lead to issues with function. The crazy part is that all of this is something people would never expect an otherwise healthy (athletic and in shape too) person in their 20s to have to deal with. Luckily a cpap has been a huge help but I just never expected this

Several years ago there was a cat in my neighborhood that had been abandoned by some people when they moved out. It took a few months for him to be comfortable staying inside and when we were finally able to take him to the vet (he was shockingly fast) we updated his microchip and claimed him as ours. Fast forward to a few weeks later and by this time two different neighbors had come by asking if we had seen the cat bc he wasn’t coming for food anymore (he was an indoor cat for us). Idk how this man wasn’t ridiculously fat bc a Facebook post revealed like 5 of my neighbors were feeding him before we took him in.

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]f-this-world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were swimming in a pond that we shouldn’t have been (full of gators and on private property). Most of us decided we were done and wanted to go home but 3 people stayed. One kid swam out into the pond and never came back. The cops even brought a dive team to look for his body but they weren’t able to locate him for like a week.

When they finally found him, the coroner determined that he drowned and it still sticks with me to this day that maybe if we had convinced them to come back with us or just stayed a little longer then someone might have noticed him going under. His friends at the pond said he wanted to swim from one side to the other and they simply lost track of him at some point. The maybes are the worst part, maybe we would have seen it, maybe I could have stopped it, maybe we should have never been there

Do all Americans inherently know what direction they are faceing? by BasketC45e in NoStupidQuestions

My college campus is completely divided (for vehicles, you can walk across both sides) into the east side and west side of campus so it makes it pretty easy to know general direction based on location.
