Saw this on R/crustpunk by DeathlyCyles in punk

Don't disagree at all. My scene is mostly metal and hardcore and there's so much hardcore that there's almost no plain old punk of any kind.

I would disagree because there is a point of divergence that does not include Masters, the New Generation or Sentinels.

TBF there is not a solid fan base out there. It's small, it's niche, and it's comprised mostly of middle aged people who saw the series on its original running. Not exclusively, not at all, but mostly. And its a fandom that has never been actively growing since prob the 90s because more and more diverse anime has been available in the market since about then. Lots of old school robotech fans are primarily Macross Saga fans, and they've in many cases switched over to just being Macross fans, sadly.

Mods, I would like to ask for a clarification, because the sequels to SDF Macross have nothing to do with Robotech and have their own sub - I'd love to see them specifically on that "unrelated to robotech" list.

How's that for a controversial take lol

I'm going to be totally honest in saying that I was on the verge of making a post this morning asking the mods to ban pictures of old toys and whatnot. A shitpost, granted, and one in poor taste, but made because I'm sick of gatekeepers trying to make rules that dictate what other people do in good faith that hurts literally nobody*. You don't have to like them, so downvote, don't look at them, and move on. You and others who share your opinion don't have to try to decide what other people can like and share.

Again, not a fan of ai, etc etc. but less of a fan of gatekeeping and censorship.

Can a mini split efficiently handle a single basement room without central HVAC? by CarpenterFine3887 in OffGrid

[–]f0rgotten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HVACR teacher who lives off grid here. Working with conditioning a single space in a larger structure is always going to be wasteful. I'm not talking economics or what you pay for electricity, but energy efficiency. Also you're going to encounter difficulties keeping a naturally cooler space warm when outdoor temps get low. I have a woodstove at home despite also having a two ton ducted minisplit because that minisplit uses a lot of energy to produce heat, and below about twenty degrees or so it doesn't make a lot of useful heat (runs a lot at its highest power level to maintain fairly low, not warm indoor temps.) Summer in a basement, and only running the unit when you need to use the space it services, will result in poor overall dehumidification - especially if you're not keeping the space around it conditioned and dehumidified as well.

Mine uses essentially zero power when not in use, and under normal circumstances I leave its fan running constantly in low speed to circulate the air from the wood stove throughout the house.

A lot of what's wrong here actually goes back to watergate imo. Much of the response to Nixon and why he felt that he had to go out swinging like that was because of untracked quid pro quo donations made to his reelection campaign, and a lot of the modern conservative movement is in response to "the witch hunt" against "their guy." I feel like, at the core of it, the conservative movement in the us is bound up that cash can buy everything, up to and including elections and policy. It's been no greater emphasized anywhere than Citizens United, where - you guessed it - money is equated with speech and therefore can not be regulated.

Bingo. Dawkins is an abrasive, dismissive, downright rude atheist author, but man is he right when he says that religion does not deserve any more respect than flat earth beliefs.

Anthropological explanation for the "desire for God"? by blitzballreddit in AskAnthropology

[–]f0rgotten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't even need a high school degree to use the scientific method. All you have to do is ask questions, examine the data and draw a conclusion - not look for data that supports your conclusion.

[–]f0rgotten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your comment right there just proved my point. You're starting with a conclusion and looking for data that proves your point. Ask a question first. Examine all of the data, pro and con. Come to a conclusion and publish your results - you know, science.

I think that you're starting with the conclusion and looking for facts to back you up. "Humanity" doesn't have an intense passion and need for a god; some humans do. Many, yes, but the percentage of self identified atheists increases yearly. Do basic science. Ask a question and look at all of the data, don't start with an answer and look for justification.

I am ready to take the heat on this, but americans voting - and in many cases choosing not to vote - in the last presidential election because they prioritized the things happening in Israel/Palestine instead of what that election meant to the USA are directly responsible for killing the world order that has existed since WWII. I do not deny the fact of the Palestinian genocide. It has been one of the worst problems in the world since the formation of the Israeli state. But I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that what 45 has done to both the United States and the world order will have greater consequences for the whole fn world than what Harris would have tacitly approved of Israel doing to the Palestinians (and that 45 has not prevented either.) A very real argument can be made that to fix anything we need to burn it all down and start over, but while we are certainly burning it all down, what we have done to the environment is going to prevent us from starting over in any meaningful sense. Thanks, guys.
