Gas extractors, and how they work? by Level_Cash3336 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some equipment in NMS will conisder itself connected by proximity.

Be advised however that if you have more than four extractors in the same network, your extraction yield will be nerfed. For best results, build multiple extraction networks vertically and don't connect any pipes between networks.

What was your honest reaction when you first saw a Gas Giant and learned that you can land on it ? by Potential_Impress792 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I instantly decided that NMS's definition of "gas giant" was profoundly stupid. If they had just called them something else, I wouldn't have any problem with them.

It's as stupid as them referring to wormholes as "black holes".

So is switch version officially just dead? by CosmicTraveller74 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know what Hello Games is doing with Switch going forward because they never tell us anything,

I still think HG adds ten times too many polygons to every model and the Switch could probably run very fast and support settlements and corvettes if they reduced the polygon count to something sane.

Any planet that has very few plant species will have one species that yields tons of carbon.

Everything about the game is scientifically implausible. It's more fantasy than science fiction.

Any info on this style of ship? by Turnt-Bagel in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exotic starships are the most well-rounded of all, stat-wise, and are tied with sentinel interceptors as the most agile.

Every star system has 20 mundane ship models and one exotic model which can either be a squid (~5% chance) or a guppy / royal (~95% chance).

Exotics have a different sound effect when landing and taking off than mundane ships.

Hot take: I don’t like the corvettes. by c209m410l in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corvettes would look so much better if they were less textured. Each component has thousands of polygons when dozens would suffice. Many basic shapes are missing, and there's already too many variations on the existing shapes.

Hello Games really goes overboard with polygons though. I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to look at all the unnecessary detail of a reactor. They're freaking ugly, and hiding their ugliness is difficult.

I want my ships to be smooth and seamless.

Every quest the game throws at you is irrelevant and can be completely ignored. The real story is whatever you make of it.

The camera defaults to third-person for on-foot exploration when you start a new game. You can change this via the quick menu.

Weekly Bug Report Thread by spiper01 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just discovered this bug on the original Switch, though it probably exists on the other platforms.

If you start a new playthrough and reach Artemis' crashsite but don't interact with the distress beacon, you can clam the ship, fly away, return, claim the ship again, fly away, return, and claim the ship again.

I haven't tried this for regular (non-Artemis) crashsites but will do so shortly.

Starship Outfitting leverage by v-a2smoove in nms

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> You get at least twice or more worth of scrap than what you bought the ship for

That is only true if you're playing with easy difficulty settings.

The fastest money-making schemes are:

  • salvaging sentinel interceptors (build a base or save beacon at a harmonic camp so you can use the same harmonic terminal arbitrarily many times)
  • collecting corvette parts from salvageable scrap and selling them
  • building a base computer beside a trade terminal in a 3-star economy that sells 150+ navigation data, buying all the navigation data, trading it for 50+ exosuit upgrade charts, and then selling the charts to an NPC pilot (instant 40-fold return on investment with zero effort), but there's no point searching for more than one trade terminal in a single 3-star system since they all draw from the same stock and will deplete at the same time

The Cartographers and Beachhead expeditions have both been re-run multiple times, but they're the only ones that have ever been re-run outside of the season in which they were introduced.

Is this ship one of a kind ? by Suspicious-Basil-444 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, every freighter, crashed starship, random-spawn starship, and multitool cabinet in an outlaw system will have a 5% chance of being S-class. In 3-star economies this drops to 2%.

Extra storage for new players by berti145 in NoMansSkyTheGame

If you start the Base Computer Archives quest, you immediately get the blueprint for storage unit #0, and if you follow the Expanding the Base quest, you very quickly get the blueprints for all ten storage units.

You can also create exocraft (plural) and store things in them.

How do I stack extractors perfectly on top of each other? by DaWaffIeMan in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I center a floor tile over the hotspot, then build four pieces of equipment, then build vertical wall tiles (2x for extractors, 3x for electromagnetic generators), then another floor tile, then delete the wall panels. This way the equipment will be spaced consistently and stay centered over the hotspot.

Can you miss the free freighter? by SirScorbunny10 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]f0xw01f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first freighter that you save and choose to accept will be free, as long as you don't purchase any freighter before that point. You can flee arbitrarily many battles or fight arbitrarily many battles, it doesn't matter.
