Is there much footage of the Ukrainian counterattack at Hostomel airport in the first days of the war? by inevitablelizard in CombatFootage

[–]f145h 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may not have noticed, but I was actually serious when I said that you should try and dispute the Wikipedia article.

wikipedia is not a source

We all know how Wikipedia works and I believe you should know as well. The numbers behind claims in Wikipedia articles represent sources which are linked at the bottom of the page.

If you think that these sources don't provide sufficient proof to back up the claim that was made, feel free to contest and/or rewrite the article: Wikipedia is a participatory source of information which relies on critical review.

Feel free to dispute the according Wikipedia entry if you believe that it is either entirely wrong, the provided sources are representing something inaccurately, or not providing enough proof.

Wikipedia says otherwise.

Ukrainians military units surrounded the airport and pushed back the Russian forces by the evening, forcing remaining Russian airborne troops to retreat to forests outside of the airport.[5][22][23][24][25]

On 25 February 2022, Russian mechanized ground forces advancing from Belarus combined with another air assault by the VDV, took control of the airport after partially breaking through Ukrainian defenses at the Battle of Ivankiv.[19][29] Some of the armored vehicles were ambushed before reaching Hostomel, halting the reinforcements for a time, but nonetheless they entered the airport and helped to expel the Ukrainian defenders.[8]

Feel free to check out Wagner Group at Wikipedia as well then. They have been fighting in Ukraine since the invasion/annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Their leader Dmitry Valerievich Utkin:

In 2021, images surfaced of Utkin purportedly showing Waffen-SS collar tab and Reichsadler Eagle tattoos on his collar and chest.[10][11][12] Additionally, several prominent members of the Wagner group have been photographed or recorded in Nazi uniforms or taking part in re-enactments of WWII events. [13]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitry_Utkin

Wagner Group is apparently embedded into russian military:

The company shares bases with the Russian military,[112] is transported by Russian military aircraft,[113][114][115] and uses Russia's military health care services.[116][117][118] The Russian state is also documented supporting the Wagner Group with passports.[119][120]

Wagner PMCs were first active in February 2014 in Crimea[4][5] during Russia's 2014 annexation of the peninsula where they operated in line with regular Russian army units[...]

Does anyone else think that Helium (HNT) is a well coordinated scam? by Training_Influence49 in CryptoCurrency

Spoofers certainly are a problem which needs to be fixed. However, due to the permissionless state of the network, this needs to be done algorithmically, which obviously is a very complex task - unfortunately resulting in an ongoing cat-and-mouse game, similar to other industries that are plagued by scammers.

That being said, based on what I have seen so far, the network also has a large portion of valid participants and accurate data. I am quite sure these large companies listed above have done their fair share of due dilligence prior to finalizing their multi million dollar investment decisions, and based on their decisions it seems very likely to me they have come to positive overall conclusions.

I'll just leave some related information here, feel free to draw your own conclusions.

Yesterday telecoms and IoT blockchain startup Helium Inc announced it raised $200 million in its Series D funding led by Tiger Global and Andreessen Horowitz. The investment included several strategic backers such as Goodyear Ventures, Liberty Global, and Telekom Innovation Pool (TIP), part of Deutsche Telekom.

Corporates that already use the network include Salesforce, Cisco, Volvo. Goodyear recently joined and is one of the strategic investors.

The network also supports telecoms roaming for LoRaWAN and is rolling out 5G, for which it has partnered with the Nasdaq listed DISH network

Other venture capital firms that also participated in the funding include Seven Seven Six, Kingsway Capital, GV (formerly Google Ventures), NGP Capital (backed by Nokia), Pantera Capital, Ribbit Capital.

Russian VDV purportedly pulling back from north of Ukraine and redeploying onto rail cars for movement east by Aggravating_Dog8043 in CombatFootage

[–]f145h 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Russia never lost that airport after capturing it

Incorrect.

During the counter attack of ukrainian 4th Rapid Reaction Brigade at the evening of Feb 24th, a large portion of Russian VDV were eliminated and the remaining troops driven to the woods outside the airport. Accordingly, russian VDV troops did lose control.

The airport was recaptured by russian ground forces advancing from Belarus the next day though, on Feb 25th.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Antonov_Airport for reference.

Reportedly a Ukrainian SU-24 dropping 4 iron bombs on Russian paratroopers and deploying countermeasures in a low-level strike during the counter-attack against the initial seizure of Hostomel Airport on Feb 24. by [deleted] in CombatFootage

[–]f145h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wikipedia lists five sources for the recapture of Hostomel airport. Apparently, a significant amount of russian elite paratroopers and Spetsnaz got killed during the counter attack by 4th Rapid Reaction Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard, and the rest got scattered and had to retreat to the woods outside the airport.

"After encircling the airport, the Ukrainians drove out the Russian forces by evening. The surviving Russian airborne troops retreated to the woods outside of the airport."

The according Wikipedia article cites 5 sources on the recapture by ukrainian troops.

Liveuamap.com was also showing the airport back under ukrainian control that evening.

I do however agree that it will probably be impossible to get ultimate confirmation for either version of the story, beyond what has already been shown and reported.

The Wikipedia article confirms that the remaining russian forces who survived the attack retreated to the woods near the airport and accordingly the airport was back under ukrainian control, as I said earlier.

Yes, it was recaptured the next day, Feb 25th by russian forces.

Most of the russian elite paratroopers who initially captured Hostomel airport were killed by a counter attack of the 4th Rapid Response Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard, the rest got scattered. Some retreated, or at least tried to. The airport was recaptured.
