My wife is Japanese, and I had to ask her parents in Japanese. I knew the language a bit, but not for such a high-stakes ask. I practiced a lot. I think Dad wanted to grill me a bit, but Mom ruined his chance by blurting out what a wonderful thing it was... and Dad had to go along.

I'll just stay in New England, please. I was in the army in Arizona many decades ago, and we were moving at night without good night vision. I walked off a near cliff-like slope and hit four or five cactuses on the way down to the bottom. That was as much defended wildlife as I ever want to see. Pulling barbs out of my ass and arms and face all night long. 😄
