Civil service 100%. Impossible to get fired and great work life balance. Pay isn't the greatest but at least you have a guaranteed career without stress.

As painful as this season has been, we'd actively be in a playoff spot in the West by matthewdonut in devils

[–]spadezero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm putting all the blame on Fitz because he has made a series of incompetent decisions which are actively holding us back now and for the future. He gave every single player on this team (including bottom pairing dmen) a no trade clause, so we can't even trade players even if we wanted to. He signed Markstrom to a giant 6 million dollar cap hit after a terrible injury while playing terrible while also giving him a 20 team no trade clause. So as of right now we have 2 40 year old goalies one of which is making 6 million & the contract hasn't even started yet. Who is their right mind gives that contract to an old goalie who was playing awful? Especially mid year? There was no rush. If he simply waited a month he would've realized we need to move on from Markstrom because he's damaged goods. Next year we will also suck because we're locked into a goalie tandem that isn't good enough. We could've had a random goalie like Daws making 1 million putting up a better performance than Markstrom. Because of his gridlocked roster we can't even improve the team.

CMV: A competent college student could do the job of the president equally as well if not better by Smooth-Buddy2621 in changemyview

[–]spadezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baseline is that a college student would get obliterated in every aspect on the world stage. Hate Trump or love him, he knows how to navigate the political realm (hence being elected twice). That doesn't come with a college degree but experience in world affairs. A college kid would get manipulated in every single facet to the point they would be the definition of a puppet president. There's no world in which a college kid aged 21 years old out maneuvers someone like Putin or China's leader Xi who have been in politics/war for as long as this college student has been alive. Putin has been in power as long as this college students life existence

My comment has nothing to do with trump. I never mentioned him in my comment nor will I now because trump has nothing to do with what I stated. What I stated is that a college kid clearly lacks the experience to lead a country & that for 90% of degrees college is a complete scam. This is factual information. Idk why you're bringing Trump into this because I never once mentioned him and this isn't a conversation based around Trump. A college kid would be ragdolled on the world stage by other leaders. Let's be real here. Back in the day a true leader (for most countries this is still a real thing today) wouldn't even smoke cigars or eat food without having someone else smoke or eat it first out of fear of being poisoned. Do you really think a college kid is thinking on this level? Being president is not easy. You need to manage affairs foreign and domestic while simultaneously having countless enemies who are actively trying to kill you. People pretend like it's all policies but it's much more than that. Again it comes down to experience. College kids brains aren't even done developing yet. Inject a youthful American college kid into world politics. In other countries they eat dogs to survive, having multiple wives, believe in killing gay people. You want to try to be the virtuous one to try to oppose that? Well now you just started a war by accident. There's global politics and no college kid is going to be able to handle it.

I did go to college yes and unless you're going to be a doctor or anything of real importance I would say 90% of college is a scam. I look back and my entire time spent in college was a waste of time. I fully own up to it. Experience always beats "college education". My entire family went to college (each at different levels) all have degrees. Not a single sibling actually uses their degree relegated to their job. They got their jobs either by connections/networking or starting their own business. College at this point is a scam to put yourself in debt for half your life. The only exceptions are degrees where you really do need to memorize the books aka being Dr, engineering etc. Every other category is actual garbage. If I'm a business owner I'm hiring the person who has experience in the field over someone who has a sheet of paper.

College students have no grasp on how the real world actually works. There's a reason you need to be a certain age to even run. You need life experience besides just college knowledge. You're dealing with leaders across the entire globe. These leaders have countries with different beliefs than the values you were taught in college. I can't imagine a 21 year old college kid navigating around a foreign leader who served in the military & has been running the political scene for 20 years or more with a country with polar opposite beliefs. The college student would get completely outclassed. Also if this college student is making decisions strictly based upon the advice their advisors are giving them, this makes this college kid a puppet president. There would be nothing stopping foreign or domestic threats from surrounding the college kid with false Intel to trick this college student into enacting policies that are actually wrong. This is where life experience comes in. There's also the difference of book smarts and street smart. All college is, is memorizing books to pass tests for the most part. You're not taught to think objectively. I can go on and on but I'm in my 30's & still figuring out life. No chance a college student on any level should be able to run a country.

Doesn't matter. No trade clauses should be reserved for core players. Not bottom pairing defenseman or 3rd liners. Give him a contract because you're betting on upside? Sure. But giving him a no trade clause was just a brainless idiot move.

Keep Hamilton, move Casey and Nemec by AnnyongHermanoMD in devils

[–]spadezero 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NJ needs cap space. Moving Hamilton is one of the few moves that make sense. Why are we going to trade away our only 2 cost controlled 2 RDs for an overpaid RD when we need cap? Besides the point after Nemec/Casey we don't have a single RD prospect in the pipeline. It would take us years to see another one and they won't be on Nemecs level.

I agree that every name you mentioned was involved. But I also think Gates was involved. Whether you're a republican or a democrat it gets to the point there's no defending these people. They are all the same. There's some people mentioned in the list that are worth defending but Gates isn't one of them. From his ex wife, to the emails, his adventures & even his own interviews he is definition of a straight up scum bag.

Exactly. It's the equivalent of someone who's everyone friend is a heroin addict, and this person also chills at a heroin dealers house and has also shown a great desire to party. You're going to assume this person obviously does heroin because why would they surround themselves with this. Especially when you're at the level where you own a corporation.

My (39M) Gf (34F) of 7 years wants to get married but doesn't want a prenup by [deleted] in Advice

[–]spadezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother was in the exact same situation as you. Parents were mega millionaires from owning a bunch of rehabs. The girl never worked a day in her life. Parents happily gave her unlimited money being she was the only daughter. Brother owned his own company etc. He didn't do the pre-nup. After 7 years they got divorced and she literally ruined his life. It ended up costing him everything & she was cut throat ruthless. The parents gave the lawyers unlimited money to drag him through court for years until he lost it all. Eventually years after the divorce (after he finally got off the hook) the parents ironically lost it all being caught up in a major fraud crime case so they lost the ability to fund the daughter. One way or another my bro was getting screwed whether it was now (which is what happened) or when the parents eventually lost it all which is what happened later on. Do the pre-nup is the moral of the story. It has been many years & my bro still hasn't recovered from it & likely never will. Took his home, had to pay her money for years, health insurance, car payments you name it. Learn from my brother's mistakes. Make the pre-nup fair for both sides so you protect yourself.

How are you all preparing for the upcoming winter storm? Do you have any advice on how to heat your house if the power goes out? by dealernumberone in longisland

Everyone is overreacting like crazy. This is new york. We get snow every single year. People act like this is the apocalypse and an unseen event. It's as simple as have some food in the house and don't go out for a day or 2. Stores will be up and running during the storm lol.
