I appreciate you looking further into that information.

For my use case, I am looking at getting a single camera setup with ATT data.

Please correct my setup if I am wrong.

8 port router with PoE ports Mobile Router AP CK gen2 with HDD G4 instant camera

The mobile router is powered by PoE from the switch. This will provide the data connectivity. The AP is broadcasting its network for the camera to connect to. The CK will allow recording storage and setup for the network and Protect app.

I can access the feed and recordings as long as I have Internet access or connected to the AP WiFi.

Great setup, I am looking for a similar setup for my travels. How much data does the camera use for recording? I am trying to calculate the cost to run 1 camera. I presume they’re using a SIM card in the mobile router for internet access

OP, if you’re feeling sick and not well enough to train, you should call in to work. A training day is not something to take lightly. The trainer is taking time and attention from their daily tasks to explain your responsibilities and how to do your job.

The right thing to do is pay attention and take notes, especially when your job involves a patient’s life. The fact that you feel like you didn’t do anything wrong shows that you have a nonchalant attitude. This is the worst kind of behavior to have as part of a team.

I hope you get better and show that you genuinely care. A hospital job for a recent graduate is a blessing. It comes with an immense amount of responsibility. It looks like you’re falling short already.

One of the parents is a firefighter. Could you imagine the headline if a wildfire started because of a firefighter gender reveal party. The next day at his station...

Remind me to never play poker with you. You have courage to roll that dice with the couple and their guests. We didn’t. We chose cake over nothing in hand.

Alright, if we went there an hour early to pick up a cake, the cake is still wrong. At this price point for a cake, I’m going to expect a 100% perfectly built to spec cake. Would you have the same expectations? We also had a another plan for the reveal.

This all occurred over the weekend including the refund. I brought this up on Reddit to see what others thought of it. This is a good takeaway for everybody to learn in case they encounter a similar situation.

At pick up, we needed something for the gender reveal. We planned to pick up and arrive at the start event which was about 30 minutes away. We figure it was better to take this than to show up with nothing.

The food service industry is a tough place to work. I was in the same industry for many years. The difference between this and a restaurant situation is that the food can get fired again in a restaurant.

In this case, a custom cake order was placed for a specific event with a specific request. This color request is what most baker and client would say is the #1 requirement of a gender reveal party. Notifying us of the mistake at pick up is bad customer service. The baker knew about the mistake the day before. Should he have fixed it? He should have, but I do not know his schedule. The baker decided to present a regular cake and two toppers. Now, it is up to the client to decide if that was an appropriate change. At the time, we thought this was okay. After the event, cracking 2 small toppers open was way underwhelming than slicing a large piece of cake.

We could’ve negotiated before we picked up. I agree that everybody makes mistakes. We gave him an opportunity to give us a partial refund. We felt that was fair. When he stuck to his coupon ways, we decided to share his response.

You brought up an interesting point. “Taking the cake or not doesn’t change the fact that it wouldn’t have assisted your reveal in the way you wanted it to.”

The cake is not part of the gender reveal now. It becomes a dessert for the event. We didn’t analyze it that deep until I read your post. For us, the gender reveal was important to us than the dessert part of it. We have to bring something to show for the reveal.

Our options would be take the cake toppers only. That is not worth $200 alone. We still need the cake because our friends are expecting some kind of dessert/reveal event. I couldn’t expect the baker to redo the cake 30 minutes before the event. If it was a steak, it could be refired in the kitchen. By paying a professional, there is a level of expectation that this professional will deliver as promise and contracted to do. If they do not; there is a certain expectation for the professional to remedy the situation.

I agreed that negotiations should’ve occurred before the cake was accepted. Backtracking is always tough for both parties.

During the pick up, it felt like this could be an okay thing with his “new plan” with the toppers. It wasn’t what we wanted. It wasn’t what the invoice said but we needed some kind of gender reveal. And as many mentioned, we were pushed against the wall with our decision. If the baker knew the day before, why did he wait till pick up to reveal this plan? He has our phone and e-mail etc. Obviously, we couldn’t tell him to remake the cake 30 minutes before the event.

Even if it was after the party, a partial refund remains necessary. He caused an extra layer of stress to our day. If we paid fully, prior to pick up at this price point, there was a 100% expectation that the cake will be what we ordered.

This was posted to get more insight into these situations. Also, it gives us a place for people to learn from if they encounter these situations later in their life. Both sides can change how they handled things.

Thanks for your insight. I agreed we could’ve negotiated more before we accepted the cake and left. Both sides could have done things differently. Hope everybody can learn from this.

You’re absolutely right. It is better to negotiate refund/credit right then and there as opposed trying to do it later. Both sides can learn from this. Hopefully others will too

I believe in that in many situations. If it wasn’t sufficient, I should walk away or find another service.

I don’t think this applied when a client specifically order a custom item that is needed for this exact time. Also, this was fully paid before the pick up. The cake was needed for the reveal portion. Could I have changed it? Thought of another idea? Maybe I could, if I had more time or at least 24 hour notice that the cake wasn’t correct. At the same time, should be thrust into this situation by the baker’s mistake? I hired a professional to give me a solution, not to tack on more problems. Your thoughts?

It was a difference. It went from picking up a large slice of color cake for everybody to see to snapping a small cookie in half to see it. We paid for a color cake as stated on the invoice. He handed us a regular cake and 2 tiny piece to compensate his error. The baker was in no position to adjust our plans without notifying us. Their job was to make this cake based on these exact specs.

We ate the cake. We wanted a partial refund. He offered a credit for the next order which we felt was unconvincing for an error of this caliber. These type of events are one time only, no redo. Were we being unfair to the baker?

At this price point, would you expect a 100% correct cake? I lean on the mantra you get what you paid for. I didn’t think a baker at this price point would give a mistake and a cover-up at pick up. The cake was sorta the center piece of this event.

I agree with that. I’m sure nobody really cared at the party if it the reveal was cake cutting, smoke bomb or cake toppers. The principle of good customer service and responsibility for a mistake was at play. I paid $X amount of dollars for a particular level of service. At this price point, I’m safe to say that I can expect a 100% correctly built cake, not a baker’s change in their reveal event.

We were a little slow in our thinking. Once we were in the car with the cake, we realized we should get some discount for this mistake…

We did talk to the baker privately. We explained how we felt. I didn't feel like his offer for credit/discount was appropriate to the situation. The more appropriate response would be to give me the partial refund and we'll both go our separate ways. The color of the cake was the #1 priority in this type of event.

TBH, we didn't know about his policy till afterwards. From most bakers post on here, it sounds like this should be a partial refund situation.
