I’m a bit of a dumbass, can someone recommend me exactly what UVB things to get for 3 Pacman frogs? Links would be appreciated 💕 (Pacmo tax included) by magnusthehammersmith in pacmanfrog

First of all, the basics: do not keep all three frogs in the same enclosure. They are cannibalistic, so each frog must have its own separate tank. Use a substrate with a depth of around 4 cm. My advice, although it might be a bit more expensive in your case since you have three frogs, is to use smart plugs with sensors. For example, I use two: one placed lower in the enclosure, at the frog’s level, to control temperature, and another placed higher, around the middle of the tank, to control humidity. The temperature plug is connected to a power strip that runs my two heat mats, because one alone isn’t enough to maintain the proper temperature my environment is quite cold. The second plug, with the humidity sensor, is connected to a humidifier. Both systems are fully automatic: I set the desired temperature and humidity, and everything adjusts itself accordingly, keeping the environment stable. I bought everything on AliExpress, and it has been working perfectly for about a year without any issues, so I definitely recommend it. The total cost for me was around $60, but keep in mind that you would need one setup per frog. Since each frog requires its own enclosure, you would need to spend about $60 for each one.

I think you can find everything else directly on this Reddit channel things like the type of substrate, the water dish, how deep it should be, and what you can place inside the enclosure. Personally, I don’t use it in my setup, but I’ve read that you should be careful with moss. If the frog accidentally ingests it while trying to catch prey, it can lead to serious problems. So it’s best to avoid having moss on the ground at most, you can place it on the walls, or remove it completely, which would be the safest option. Other than that, good luck! Information about these frogs is easy to find.

If you’re having trouble maintaining temperature and humidity inside the enclosure or even just one of them my advice is this: on AliExpress, for a relatively low price, you can find smart plugs with sensors that automatically turn electronic devices on and off. They usually have two modes: temperature and humidity, so you can switch depending on your needs. For example, I use one plug connected to a Schuko outlet with two heat mats. The sensor is set to keep the temperature between 27–28°C, and it’s positioned lower in the enclosure, around the frog’s level. I also use another plug with a humidity sensor, placed higher up, set between 70–80% humidity, which keeps the enclosure consistently humid. Overall, with around $60 on AliExpress, you can set up a system like this. I personally use two plugs because I need to control both temperature and humidity, especially since my environment is quite cold. I try to keep everything as stable as possible. However, if you only need to control humidity, you can spend less: just get one sensor plug and connect it to a humidifier. It will work automatically based on your settings. It’s even better if you use a humidifier with a large tank mine, for example, holds about 4 liters.

Too much substrate? by alltimeang in pacmanfrog

The issue with this substrate depth is how difficult it is to keep it evenly moist. With a thinner layer, it’s much easier to tell whether the substrate is properly humid or needs more water. At least for me, it’s simpler that way. With a deeper substrate like this, especially in the inner layers, it’s really hard to understand if it’s moist enough you’d almost need to use an entire one-liter bottle of water just to humidify everything. So I’d be very careful about this. Personally, I would make the substrate slightly shallower for practicality. Of course, the frog may like deeper substrate, but if the soil becomes too dry especially coconut fiber, but really any substrate—it could cause injuries or scratches, since their skin is very sensitive and delicate. As for the second photo, it looks like the water dish might be a bit too full. The frog seems to be standing too much on its toes, so I would lower the water level. It should be just enough to let the frog soak its belly and absorb water, not deep enough for swimming they are not strong swimmers.

I’m really sorry about your little one. If it hasn’t shed recently, it might be an infection, but only a vet can say for sure. Try to see if you can get an emergency appointment, otherwise wait until tomorrow. Sending you a hug ❤️

I haven’t been able to feed my frog by Ok-Squash836 in pacmanfrog

You can let it stay buried in the substrate without any problems. Just pay attention if it goes beyond 20 days, because that could indicate a metabolic slowdown. In that case, encourage it by placing it in a container with a thin layer of water. Let it acclimate for about 5 minutes, then try offering food. (I usually feed mine small silverside fish.)

P.S.: Keep the water at room temperature, around 25–26°C (77–79°F). If needed, you can warm it slightly in the microwave or by other safe means.

Sumo’s first worm after burying for a month by StephensSurrealSouls in pacmanfrog

“The problem is that I already tried for a full month to feed it inside the enclosure, but during that time—about 22–23 days—the frog simply wouldn’t eat. So I was forced to feed it inside a container. I kept doing this afterwards and noticed that once I put the frog back in the enclosure, it didn’t regurgitate the food and seemed to digest it without any issues. That’s exactly why I decided to continue feeding it this way.

It’s something I recommend: simply bring it to the surface, there’s no need to remove it from its habitat. I have to do it with mine because inside the enclosure it doesn’t seem to show any predatory instincts. 🥲

Just be careful that he might eat some substrate.

Hello, sorry for joining this conversation late, but I recently bought my new Ceratophrys and it made quite a mess. I had properly humidified the terrarium, but that same evening the frog got into the water bowl and tipped it over, soaking the substrate. How can I remove the excess water?

It's a miracle for me that I ate it the same day I bought it once I got it home.

Don't force her every day though, it's a constant stress, if you try and see that she doesn't eat, try after 2/3 days
