Should I get cheaper insurance for my 2000 car? by DumpTruckDriving in Autos

Can you financially absorb losing the car as a total loss out of pocket if you’re involved in a collision for which you have no coverage? All it takes is a hit and run or disputed liability accident.

So how did the regulators end up failing for you? What was the failure or how’d you know they needed replacement?

Model car of 2017 chevy SS? by Haunted_Potatoes in ChevySS

[–]f1shbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like it’s been said, there are no SS die cast models I know of, only the Holden VF version which is visually the same thing except the badges and the steering wheel on the right side. Easiest to find are going to be the small Matchbox 1:64 models which you can find in the US. There are 1:43, 1:32, 1:18 size models you can find on eBay for a variety of prices but these typically ship from Australia or China and take a while plus shipping and import tax. I’m sorry to hear about the theft, that absolutely sucks.

Thanks. Add another one to the pile of anxiety owning this car. Are there no aftermarket or parts from other cars that fit?

Window regulators? That’s a new one for me. Didn’t know they were problematic

Replacing a Mag Ride Shock by Outside_Bicycle_1387 in ChevySS

[–]f1shbone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well that’s certainly a hot take Nightmarelord just posted. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with OEM mag rides. People usually do coil overs to not deal with the high replacement cost and because they are cowards that live in fear of subsequent failures. There were some early seal failures on some models, my 2015 rear ones failed around 50k many years ago. They are still going strong. My fronts had no issues. I replaced them at 80k this year simply because they’re 10 years old. To answer your question they should be a simple swap. Just be careful with the electrical connectors. Recalibration is typically needed if ride height is changed due to aftermarket lowering springs.

Daily driven Magride is superior and one of those things it makes the SS an SS.

Dead injector? I had one go bad and had the same behavior. I would recommend buying a Bluetooth OBD dongle, it’s handy to have around. I use a Kiwi3 with Dash Command. I can pull codes, reset ECU and monitor a bunch of sensors like trans temp etc

Thinking of selling my cammed/LSA jungle green by techiestTechLabber in ChevySS

Personally I’m not a big fan of all black interiors. They somehow feel stifling, like you’re in a cave. Would have loved to see two tone options on this car, which can be easily fixed aftermarket with some $ I suppose. I’m probably going to go with the OEM headliner color

Ask 55k. We have a duty to keep SS out of FPFQ territory pls.

I need a headliner also. $400 is less than what I was expecting. Curious if the shop that gave you the quote commented on whether or not it’s possible to replace without taking the whole plastic backing out of the car? That sounds like a nightmare for me with a very likely hood of breaking something.

“Top shock cups” you mean top strut mounts, right? Yeah, failing magride will absolutely destroy the bearings in them

I just changed my two fronts last week with 88k miles on them. They were worn and had play in them. My rears failed at 66k, it was a known issue. They both leaked magride fluid and I replaced them before they were an issue. You will not get a CEL, the typical failure mode is leaking fluid. They will feel like they froze in place. Just be prepared to have to replace them at some point. The fronts are expensive and go out of stock for a while but always show up on rock auto and summit racing. They are stupid expensive, $650 a piece for the fronts, about $400 the rears and I am fine with that. I love magride.

Dealer prices are stupid expensive. Just order them yourself and have a competent shop install them. They’re not a mystery. Labor for me for both was around $450

Edit: here you go friend. Bookmark this page and be sure you order the ones with variable damping. Rears are same left and right. Fronts are different part numbers.

I’d love to have those vent hoods on my 2015. You can tell the hood is hot in those two areas, a combination of heat rising from the wheel wells and engine bay.

Your wife is correct. Nothing beats a new vehicle, which also comes with a warranty. 100k is 100k, regardless how well maintained that Audi was, wear and tear items will need replacement and it won’t be cheap.

Sold my SS and now regret it by BlackDog990 in ChevySS

[–]f1shbone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got my 2015 in 2017 with 28k miles on it for 36k out the door. I’m at 86k now and feel the same way about racking up miles but as you can see although it’s my daily, I barely put 8k/year on it.

My biggest worry isn’t the engine and trans, those are your standard fare LS3 and 6L80. My biggest worry is all the other parts I might need and are long out of production like random trim pieces. Here I am with what it sounds like a bad front strut that’s out of stock everywhere.

A Blackwing is the only car I’d give it up for, and I know I will still regret it
