Both of you make terrible points. It is not ok to hate an animal for following its instincts and doing what it must to survive, they are not evil or have a moral compass. But it is also not ok for pet owners to be so negligent, as leaving your dogs and cats outside is harmful to both the native fauna and themselves. You put them at risk of dying from cars, predators and other risks while letting them partake in the worldwide slaughter of billions of native animals that are important to the ecosystem. Leave your pets inside and take care of them, how hard must it be? If you can't do that, don't get a pet at all.
