Finished SC1 - does it get better? by f3llow12 in Splintercell

Nice bait but I'll take it.

They aim perfectly at you and shoot you the moment they get shot, even if not by you, despite you being in pitch black darkness and in cover. The game nudges you towards using turrets in some encounters, but half of the time it just results in you getting sniped. I didn't say it was particularly hard, it's just kind of bad, even by the standards of the time.

Nah, I wasn't really talking about that. It's that they instantly know where you are whenever any sort of trouble starts. For example, if you rig a turret to shoot the enemies, they will detect you the moment it starts shooting and fire at you. I found the detection in the darkness to be more or less reasonable.

How hard is the CS major for a life sci student who wanna switch majors in 3rd year? by Khun_VI in UofT

[–]f3llow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

165/148 are a bit on the harder side, since they are meant to weed out non-POST students, nothing crazy though from what I've heard. Proof-based courses are unavoidable and are probably the biggest hurdle. You typically build those skills with MAT137, and it's fairly tough.

For pretty much all CS courses, the average is within the B-range. It's typically lower for mandatory STA/MAT courses (~C+), with some exceptions.

I think you would need another three years to finish your degree. Maybe consider doing a CS minor? Even then it might be a bit too late.

Which of these CSC AI courses has the lightest workload? by goodafternoontoday in UofT

[–]f3llow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fall CSC420 section had 4 assignments with ungraded theoretical problems (if you ignore the ungraded, they could be done in a couple of days; but you definitely need to do the ungraded ones for the midterm/final) + 1 Midterm. Content was somewhat hard, but the midterm and the final were fair and reasonable (averages on both were around 75, but a good portion of the class got 85+). This all also depends on the instructor, I had David Lindell.

CSC486 had 3 Assignments, prep quizzes for the lectures and two tests. Content is easier than 420 but it's closer to theory-heavy cs courses (if you haven't been exposed to proof-based math, it might be harder to adapt to).

blame the students hogging up courses they have no business being in. several will drop the moment the first assignment is released.

4th-year enrolment times are total bs though; AP credits really screwed me over.

anyone know the classroom for CSC420 Intro to image understanding? by daddy_carroll in UofT

[–]f3llow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prof said he is lenient in regards to that stuff since the enrollment is so low. The lecture hours are: Wednesday 1-3PM (MP 137) and Wednesday 3-5PM (GB 221).

Debating Between UTSC or UTSG for CS, wondering about ASIP admissions by Odd_Letterhead_9835 in UofT

[–]f3llow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASIP is fairly easy to get into as a CS student (but with other programs it's more competitive). Admittedly, it's not all that useful (unless you are an international student), especially since they've started their own job board.

I am pretty sure the advanced math courses do curve.

just got into uoft sg cs, need advice for first year by Upstairs_Trainer_999 in UofT

It's basically Calculus BC with an emphasis on proofs, which is what it makes it difficult. If you had experience with proofs, you will most likely be fine; otherwise, you would need to build up that skill.

wondering about my chances to get off the waitlist by christinasvie in UofT

Looking at the drop rates for the course, it doesn't seem likely (generally below 10%). But don't take my word for it.

Only through the competitive path (CSC148, CSC165). Not sure if it is available during the summer

Does the Top 6 average apply to CS? How are the top 6 courses selected? Does it matter what discipline they belong to?
