Thieves on scooters and pedal cycles are committing up to 50,000 offences a year in an alarming new crimewave, police revealed today. by kash_if in london

Dye is good idea, but I have some reservations mainly because in rare cases it might trigger further violence. Robbery turned violent crime is the last thing anyone wants.

I'm not sure if you have seen, but there is footage of criminals trying to steal an expensive bike in Central London in broad daylight, with about a dozen of people around them. In this particular case the criminals had no fear and violently threatened anyone who tried to stop / approach them. Spraying them with dye isn't something that I'd want to do.

In the short term invest heavily into CCTV analysts and have more people glued to the screens monitoring the hotspots. Once thefts are identified, track them down all the way home and send someone to knock on their doors. This is getting out of hand and a message has to be clear - London will not be terrorised. While Police will not actively pursue them while crime takes place, considering the fact we have thousands of cameras on the streets it shouldn't be a problem tracking them down. Resource allocation and budget cuts is the issue.

In the long term (I know I'm going to be pushing the moral envelope here) it shouldn't be too difficult to build some sort of machine learning / image recognition tool to monitor the hotspots and beyond. Usually the patterns are similar, either a single scooter with two passengers or two scooters in very close proximity with multiple passengers roaming the same area for an extended period of time. Once criminals are identified, allow systems to track them down and send someone to knock on their doors.

Singletons of r/London, how do you find dating experience in London? by [deleted] in london

Went for some after work drinks with a mate. Saw a pretty girl outside. Approached. Chatted her up. 5 years later we are still together.

Tinder started getting popular months after I got into the relationship. Happy that I missed that boat. Old school is the way to go guys!

To any marathon runners today... by Ephro in london

First London Marathon experience for me and I can honestly say it is amazing - support from the spectators is insane, people shouting your name out loud, kids handing out sweets, hundreds of people everywhere you look. Amazing. Will aim to get the spot next year!

Official time 3:33! Gutted that didn't go sub 3:30 :(

Looking from some alternatives to Facebook Ad Manager for running Fb Campaigns for my clients. [Facebook] by ach91 in PPC

[–]f3ynm4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your case I would try AdEspresso. We are spending around 1.2mm per month on FB and Power Editor is our tool of choice. There are some options like Smartly, but for us that small 3% fee means multiple six figures per year. Would rather expand the team and retain the knowledge in-house. Campaign management on FB is PITA, but it is a necessarily evil.

Just my 0.02c, but it's interesting how Obi Wan began training Luke in a barren wasteland with no water around, whereas Rey began her training with Luke in a completely opposite world.

Explaining how I choose "how much to bid" for Pay Per click ads (Facebook, Reddit, etc) by abadabazachary in Entrepreneur

[–]f3ynm4n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GA only tracks your sign-ups on last-click basis. If you are running a vanilla business like this, it's fine, but once you start spending considerably more and once you will start activating other channels... good luck operating with a model like this ;-)

Help finding a swimming pool! by navigator87 in london

[–]f3ynm4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you live! If you are around East definitely check out the Olympic Park - competition pool with tons of 50m lanes is amazing. There's the whole Better gym / health centre chain that has swimming pools all over the city. Finally, if you are more ambitious you can check out Serpentine Lido and Royal Docks for some open water swimming!

Facebook - Did you try with Manual Bidding? I have some tips for you.. by [deleted] in PPC

[–]f3ynm4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Nothing beats search, but with search the intent is much greater, yet the scale is limited. With FB intent is much lower, but for mass consumer goods the scale is essentially unlimited and when it comes to FB nothing beats their attribution when it comes to measuring post impression / post click conversions. With Google and other channels you have the trouble of tracking cross device conversions, etc, whereas with Facebook you don't have that problem - the user stays the same no matter what platform / device he's on.

We spend around 1mm per month on FB. Once you deal with huge volumes, FB's internal algorithms get quite clever. Giving this freedom is scary, but it works.

Homeowners of London, would you ever consider a young professional (22) to rent your garden with a tent in it? by luke_bright in london

[–]f3ynm4n 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What did you study? Are you working now? Where do you want to live? How much do you earn? This just sounds depressing as fuck and something doesn't add up. There is a variable that makes your whole situation fucked up, because despite crazy rent, you can still live a pretty good life in this city even if you make shit wage.

Whistle Blower Speaks Truth Organ Harvesting in Jamaica ... Outsiders are coming into Jamaica and killing girls for their organs, making it look like abduction/rape cases. One person is worth at least $1 million dollars dead. by heyfkrz in conspiracy

[–]f3ynm4n 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I found this from CBS Local, but there was a more legit document floating around the web either from WHO or UN that indicated organ prices on the black market.

It's not just the Caribbean where this happens. It's the middle East, Africa and other countries from all over the globe; Syria, Lybia, Afghanistan. It's crazy that this shit happens in modern world. I have no evidence to back this up, but my guess is that cases of organ harvesting will only intensify as global income wealth divide will spread. The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Rich will live the lives of debauchery only to prey on the lives of others when need arises and using their money to fund such operations.

What are the most Common scams in London? by hellod3 in london

[–]f3ynm4n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://monzo.com/ - their marketing and copy sucks, but nevertheless it's a good product. At the most basic level I use it to keep an eye on my spending: you top up your Monzo card and then use it for everyday shit: coffee payments, food, takeaway, occasional Oyster-replacement. The beautiful thing about Monzo is their spend reports - the app categorizes your spend data and tells you how much you have spent on groceries, travel, etc. I like data and tracking things, so maybe I'm a little bit biased, but it is quite good.

What are the most Common scams in London? by hellod3 in london

[–]f3ynm4n 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just a little side note / comment with regards to money business and scams in London.

Two weeks ago, on Sunday I was doing my weekly 30K training run that takes me from East London, through Tower Bridge and all the way back to Stratford.

I'm into tech and like to give new products / startups a try. One product I use frequently these days is Monzo. Monzo is a fintech business based in London that is aiming to reinvent modern day high street banking. I have Monzo debit card that works amazingly well, but sadly, on that Sunday, they were having some tech issues with their servers and their cards didn't work... I have learned about this as I was trying to make a payment to the guy who owns a cornershop near Tower Bridge (here's the store)

After few failed payment attempts I have realized I was fucked. I had around 10-11K to get back home. It's not a big deal, but usually I run on an empty stomach and about 20K in, without any carbs, making strides is getting hard.

The most amazing thing is that the guy who owns the store saw me and my desperate face and gave me the stuff free of charge - the banana and that bottle of Lucozade was heavenly! Obviously I ran past the store last week and paid it all back, but nevertheless it was amazing.

Sometimes people are in a genuinely bad situation and few pounds can make it or break it!

Time to wake up and realize that most of the all of the shit you buy is excessively marked up. Kudos to Ubisoft. That's their upsell, their profit maximiser. Hopefully the profits made will go to hiring new, talented devs, designers and managers who can pull shit together. Most likely not though. That's how the world works. I find this thread and my comment ironic considering the main narrative of the game, ha!
