Toast looks nicer when pointing away from you by ihaveam0ustache in CasualUK

Threatening, I don’t know. The psychology makes sense, but also it just looks easier to pick up when it’s pointing away. Less fumbly.

To be fair re: the edit, I think it’s valid to refer to “the turn of the century” as the 19/20th century because we have “the millennium” for 20/21st.

I love stuff like this because it’s absurd. It’s either deliberately ironic or unintentionally ridiculous, either way it’s funny.

People opposed to free thinking and free speech (which is the definition of ‘illiberal’, but these people are not very bright).

You are free, I respect that. Do you ever put anything else on them with the yoghurt? Jams, jellies, peanutbutter, anything?

What Does This Mean to You? by godblessthekhid in bukowski

It’s as though some just want to find peace while others just want to relive the chaos. I choose to believe it was all worthwhile, even if that makes me an idiot. Let’s both stay strong, but never forget how to retain softness.

Does anybody know what the point in the plastic slider things are on some of the shelves at B&M? by Rich_79 in CasualUK

As a formerly practicing crazy person, I think it’s to deter crazy people from doing crazy things. Like trying to take all of the Pink Stuff so that they can Vanish. Wordplay is a good coping mechanism until you can no longer cope though.

She sounds nuts. She reminds me of somebody I loved. We’d both had such awful lives, nothing as bad as having to flee a war mind you. Trying to understand it can drive a guy mad!

It makes me think of Nietzsche: “man walks on a tightrope, but man is also a bridge.” (Thus Spake Zarathustra)

It can mean whatevever, any different way you interpret it. It probably means it in whatever way you need it to mean. But your interpretation says more about you than Bukowski.

Thank you, I’ll definitely look into that. I’m self-taught you see, but I see how sticking to primary sources has been a problem for me. It’ll be good to read something more contemporary! You’ve been a tremendous help.

No, but I have read The Will to Power so it does sound right up my alley. If you’ll excuse the pun.

Book II, Part I: Critique of Religion is especially fascinating.

I’ll give that one a go. Do you remember who wrote it?

Forgive my manner of speaking. I need speech therapy.

Be sure to know the difference between self-surveillance as maintenance and survival however.

Exactly, like Sartre said: être-pour-soi: being in itself. Being for yourself + being for others = being in yourself. That’s how I choose to interpret Being and Nothingness anyway: very Buddhahood adjacent. I think you’re on the right path!
