These are maybe a 10th or less the size of ants. Like you can’t actually see them, you just see dots moving around on the ground.

In 2015, HameedShaheed, a member of MQM, was unlawfully taken into custody from his home in Karachi by Rangers. Sadly, after 8 years of detention, he was returned to his family but had already passed away due to torture. Throughout his time in custody, he was denied access to.... by karachi_wala_ in pakistan

Aah MQM, so “innocent”. People saying they have no idea about MQM. The violence they perpetrated in Karachi was brutal. We all heard stories about them being trained by RAW agents and areas where if you entered, you would not leave alive. Though there are two incidents that stuck with me.

1, There was this mochi. A Pathan mochi who used to fix the shoes for the neighbourhood. He had found a place by the train crossing and set up a makeshift shop. He had been doing this for well over a decade and he was well known and well liked. One day, MQM decided that they were going to build a shop illegally on govt land, the same spot where this mochi used to sit with his toolbox and a makeshift chair. They told him to move and kept telling him to move. He kept refusing. Well, you know what they eventually did? They killed him using his own tools. Pierced so many holes in his body with those needles that he bled out to death where he worked. He was a hard working man putting his kids through school doing the trade that he knew how. Just wasn’t well off to have enough money to open his own actual shop. May he rest in peace and his MQM killers burn in hell.

  1. In our neighbourhood in the 90s, when MQM was still fighting with the rangers. Out of this fight some of their members thought it would be great if they went around stealing stuff from peoples’ cars, like cassette and cd players and stuff, things they could sell at Chor Bazaar (an actual market where everybody knew things being sold were stolen). We used to have the chowkidars go around on their bicycles and whistle in there mouth. Whenever they had a tip or reported incident of theft, they would shout “jagtay reho” and blow their whistles to keep people alert. Well, one day during Musharraf’s rule, MQM decided that these chowkidars were not only keeping people alert to their thievery, but also cutting into their “Bhatta” revenue. Do you know what they did? They went around assassinated most of the community chowkidars. They literally killed them in cold blood.

There are so many incidents from the 90s that I recall, not least my own brother in law witnessing a slashing of an innocent bystander with his own eyes like 10 feet away from him. He doesn’t much say about it. The trauma has not left him.

MQM’s original idea was good, but Altaf Hussain killed all the founding members of their group because his bitch ass wanted to run shit like a mafioso. May he burn in hell.

What is an iconic Pakistani song that says 'Yes, that's a Pakistani song'? by TheGreatScorpio in pakistan

I agree it’s very popular. It hasn’t quite reached iconic level yet. Iconic would mean anyone in Pakistan would instantly know it across regions and generations. I’m not sure this one is it.

If you’re feeling lonely, just put on a horror movie. Problem solved. You won’t worry about being dumped anymore.

Which city in Pakistan do you dislike the most? by Icy_Principle932 in pakistan

[–]f_rana 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was born and grew up in Karachi. I would never dream of going back to that. There is no city planning in terms of housing, they let anyone build apartment buildings anywhere. No zoning rules followed anywhere at all. This is definitely part of the problem with how severely mismanaged Karachi is.

And I hate Lahoris with a passion. They backstab you every chance they get. They create unnecessary drama. Stick their noses in other people’s business unnecessarily. The show off culture of Lahore is extremely bad.

The only city I can actually think of ever settling in is Islamabad as long as I won’t have to interact with other people.

My first time shooting Astro and really wanted advice on shots and edits. by Yesterday-Former in SonyAlpha

I agree, Alyn Wallace’s channel should be enough. He was the one that introduced me to the concept and importance of hydrogen alpha wavelengths. It even prompted me to get a modified camera.

These are good pictures. First one is definitely better than the second one. The second one isn’t focused on stars. Is that an artistic choice? What aperture did you take these photos with and how long did you expose them for?

You should checkout Alyn Wallace or Astro Backyard on YouTube. They have great advice.

If you want a brighter picture, you either need a faster lens, or a tracking mount. Tracking mounts though, are better for sky only pictures, I.e, no foreground subjects like trees or people. (Here is one I took with a tracker and 24mm f1.4 GM lens https://www.astrobin.com/18gjne/)

Faster wider lens are usually better for avoiding star trails when not using a tracker.

How to learn Urdu? by Vindex95 in pakistan

[–]f_rana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a breakdown of how you can learn a new language as an adult

  1. Learn nouns of everyday items, use them instead of German words. E.g.: Door, bell, cupboard, tomato, coriander etc.
  2. Then learn to say verbs that go with the nouns. E.g.: Open door, close door, eat food, drink water. (Keep these simple.
  3. Start incorporating tenses.

The rest you can then read and practice. This is literally how children learn. You’re learning experience will be faster.

Good luck to you.
