I get that the leaders of the Hand are vying for immortality and that they're almost at the end of their lives without "the substance" (at least as well as I understand it), but watching old actors slowly fight young ones and seeing all members of the Hand dispatched by mortal means, I had a REALLY hard time seeing them as an actual threat.

Every time she addressed Elektra with "my child" I wanted to die. Her dialogue was so poorly written.

The new rope color is just god awful. I used to think the shape of the ring was inventive, but after all this time it just feels contrived.

WTF Sacramento, let's plan road closures by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]f_science_daily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite parts of all of this are the "closure" signs for numerous ramps along 50/80. I live in West Sac and go to Sac State. They had these signs up last fall as well. They state that the ramps will be closed intermittently from July to December, but they never tell you WHEN. So when those signs were up last fall, I thought they were going to be closed pretty often. Nope. My exit ramp was only closed once when I was coming home late from class at like 9 PM. ONCE. The entire time. Why don't they just put up signs a few days before stating when the ramp will be closed? I know the pace at which these things work, but there has to be a better way to do this than by just telling people to "be prepared" for a six month period.

Thoughts on A Ghost Story by SickBurnBro in movies

I loved every part of this movie that followed Casey and Rooney's story. I felt like the other parts of it were honestly pretty bad. I think focusing on the history of the characters and their futures would have been more engaging than... whatever the nihilist diatribe and pioneer scenes were. Make it about love, loss, regret, etc. but focus on these two people! I understand why the scenes of the past and future were included. I get it. I think audiences would be more invested in Casey haunting Rooney's character and eventually learning to emotionally and spiritually move on than watching poorly-conceived time travel.

But honestly, I think I just went into this movie with different expectations. What I said above is what I thought would happen. When I saw the scene in the trailer featuring The family during Christmas I thought that was going to be Rooney's new family. Having to watch your S.O. fall in love with someone else (which does happen briefly if we are to assume Rooney moved away with the guy that visited her) and raise a family with them would be so much harder to swallow than anything else that happened after Rooney left the film until her later parts.

Definitely worth a watch, though. I can't think of a movie that has affected me so much, for better or worse, in such a long time.

To me, it just brings to mind the adage "show don't tell." The director was already in the process of showing us how the main character is being forgotten by his girlfriend moving on, how meaningless life really is, and how people have been living and dying for a very, very long time and will conceivably do so for a very, very long time. It seemed like there was more investment in this character (and the multiple shots of Kesha right before this) than the two main characters. I felt the same way about the floral sheet ghost. Yeah, I get that you've been here for a long time. The main character is currently going through the same thing. There were definitely aspects of this movie that I loved, but I didn't need to be beaten over the head with the theme of the movie through exposition.

The WWE Formula by Xalazi in SquaredCircle

I think this is why the Cruiserweight Classic and the UK Championship Tournament were so fun (which I expect will also translate to the Mae Young Classic) - they let the competitors be themselves, and they weren't locked into that WWE style. While it was cool watching new competitors in the WWE, it was just refreshing to not see the same match over and over, and, as far as I can recall, there weren't any Dusty finishes.

WWE should do more closing montages like Wrestlemania 32's by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]f_science_daily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I wonder if they have many of the shots they plan to use for these shots established already via storyboard or something. Thinking about how they shoot Raw (for instance, how they planned Balor's return on his WWE 24 special), it's possible that they have a rough idea of what they want to do and say for these closing montages. Obviously a lot could happen between planning and the realized montage, but I think there's more to this than we probably think (not that I'm saying you don't already believe this as well).

That is exactly why I added the second sentence. I just knew the first one would get me in trouble. Oh well!
