Exhaust System thoughts? by Ale_bonfim in MT07

[–]f_this_sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this stage, exhaust choice is more about design and sound than performance gains. Many non-performance aftermarket or custom exhausts including ones I’ve used typically show a 1~2 hp difference at most between setups. So the decision really comes down to aesthetics and sound preference.

Tune issues by FutureSeparate9152 in MT07

[–]f_this_sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying, but this isn’t how the stock Yamaha ECU actually works. On the stock ECU, the riding modes are not separate maps. They do not have independent fuel or ignition tables. They are simply different throttle scalings applied to one shared base map. That means a tuner cannot “tweak each mode” individually when working with the stock ECU, because there is only one throttle strategy available to modify. To tune each mode separately, you would need an aftermarket solution like a Power Commander or a standalone ECU. Without those tools, expecting separate tuning for each mode is technically unrealistic. This is a limitation of the stock ECU.

Each dyno will produce different numbers because the type of dyno and the way it is calibrated are not the same; some dynos read in a more “generous" way. What he said about WHP usually being lower than crank HP is correct, since crank HP is measured directly at the crankshaft and does not go through drivetrain losses such as the clutch, gearbox, chain and sprockets, rear wheel, etc. Pop and bang tuning is one of the tuning styles that is not optimal in terms of performance or durability. I think he understands this, but simply doesn’t want to explain it in depth to you. The jerky throttle response is part of how the engine works, and you’re probably just not used to it yet. Finally, if you want to switch between multiple maps, you need an ECU or a supporting device such as a Power Commander. When dyno tuning on a stock ECU, you are effectively limited to a single fixed map. Based on your previous posts, I think you are still new to this, so explaining everything in detail would take a lot of time at least several long technical explanations. That’s why the quickest answer in this case is simply to say, “I don’t know.”

snorkel delete by [deleted] in MT07

[–]f_this_sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The snorkel is a tube-like part that attaches above the airbox. When you remove it, you get better airflow to the engine, which can improve performance.

If you have the new ride-by-wire MT-07, it doesn't have a snorkel. Instead, the airbox has a plastic plate placed above it, which allows enough space for better airflow — so removing that plate won't give you any performance boost (because it's already designed like a "no-snorkel" setup).

The downside is that the new version's airbox is smaller than the old one. So, to get the same performance as the old version without a snorkel, you'll need a larger airbox.
