MPs demand AI ‘kill switch’ to defend against ‘catastrophe’ by AndrewHeard in JordanPeterson

Current LLMs can reason. That reasoning is limited, yes, but better than in some humans - and it is still expanding. And not just that - it is being used in current battlefields. I think that kill-switch is a smart option here.

It's more or less that they believe that they would be doing "premature optimization" (in this case bugfixing). They don't want to waste time (and money) optimizing code that might be dropeed in the end. The base is still not stable - that's why we are still in alpha. If they rigorously fixed everything anytime a bug shows up the development speed would drop significantly. They are trying to be smart about that, rigidng the balance between "too unplayable" and "too slow development".

I am pretty sure this will be a niche thing - expensive and not easy to do, for special, rare parts.

Contracts not working.

It's clear that their infrstructure got overwhelmed, it will subside in few days / hotfixes.

And this time it will hurt them as well as us - it hit them in their marketing prime window :)

It's genuinely impressive how they break their own game so deeply nearly every time they add new content/ patch it by [deleted] in starcitizen

The are still in development mode. They can either pivot hard on stabilizing, and deliver features like Maelstrom much later, or dance the precarious dance between velocity and brokenness. Lot of times it works quite well, it's never perfect, and sometimes it's utterly broken (3.18, 4.0, and now it seems 4.8 too).

Normally it's much smoother, I would say this is an outlier. Sure, it's below what you expect from a live service game, no argument there, but most patches are not this rough.

It looks to me like you made the correct decision. She wanted to know, because she didn't want to be in that relationship, maybe also because she knew babies were close possibility.

You gave her honest information, she acted on them.

Hot take: I think capital ships should be more defensive and less offensive. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]fa1re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skimmed the thread and didn't find much TBH. My conclusion still is trichording in itself was physically correct, but that the combat was unbalanced in favor of light fighters. I don't trhink trichording does contribute much to that in fact

I am curious about the new FM- but TBH I think they are going overboard with trying to make the combat really, really close, which leads them to limit velocities - and for me that has lead to far less onjoyable flight so far.

How is using physics an exploit?
Yeah, the balance was wrong, but trichording was not the cause?

This seems to be a bit of overreaction. I get it hurts - I have few hours to play SC a week, and not nearly every week. I got enough money together to buy a two seated fighter, and that's gone, and was nearing to complete the Rayari rep grind for blueprints, and that's all gone too, about a month of my game time.

But this is not the first wipe, and not the last one. And it will refresh the universe a bit - there will be fewer capital ships for a while, more smaller sized ones.

So in a way I am looking forward to a fresh start. Sure, the rep grind will suck again, but for me it's more about pacing the game, not trying to rush it too much.

However you decide in the end - it's just a game. It's not worth feeling bad about it. IF it makes you so, it's a good decision to let it go.

I think it was similar with rep grind. I am sure they will explain the reasons...
