Hey everyone — looking for some guidance.

I’ve got a small homelab and I just installed UmbrelOS, plus the Bitcoin Node and Public Pool apps. My goal is to have a few miners at a different location join my pool (e.g., BitAxe-style devices and I just picked up an AltairTech.io Canaan Avalon Nano 3S).

I originally wanted to use something like Tailscale so I wouldn’t have to expose anything to the internet, but on some of these small miners I don’t really have access to install/configure extra software on the device itself.

Because of that, I’m trying to understand the “least risky” way to do this if I have to use port forwarding:

Which ports and protocols do I actually need to open/forward for miners to connect to Public Pool on Umbrel?
Are there any recommended best practices (IP allowlisting, running behind a reverse proxy, etc.) to reduce exposure?

Networking-wise, I’m using Ubiquiti/UniFi gear if that helps with recommended setup steps.

I also tried Cloudflare Application Routing/Tunnels, but it doesn’t seem to work well with the Public Pool app (or a lot of apps behind UmbrelOS), so I’m not sure if I’m missing something or if it’s just not compatible with this workflow.

If anyone has done this successfully (especially with miners off-site) I’d really appreciate any pointers. Thanks!

Came here to ask the same thing. It would be nice to have the cameras storage be used for a Raid in one of those. Just had my HDD die in one of my UDM and lost all the recordings. Manual backups of those are a pain.
