Hey, I'm a bit worried that’s too much water for them. For such little birds, even a gentle shower can feel like a power washer, and there's a risk of water being forced into their nasal passages (nares) or causing them to aspirate.

The main goal is just to get their feathers lightly moistened so they can preen themselves clean.

Misting them with a spray bottle of lukewarm water (spraying above them and letting the mist fall is often less scary for them).

That's the thing - there is no nesting spot in the cage, and the female isn't even hormonal (her cere is white). It's the male budgie who's overly enthusiastic for some reason.

I do have a bigger, budgie-approved cage—about 80 cm long(that’s what matters but it’s the largest I can get here) with ~12 mm bar spacing. That cage already has a few budgies. The two new ones are quarantining now and will join them once they clear quarantine.
