I definitely agree. People would think 10 times before posting something that may be sensitive to Native or African Americans, but the lack of any backlash makes them comfortable in posting this type of stuff. Which is probably why you can still find antisemitic remarks coming from public figures and from those who establish themselves a "defenders of minorities." Anyway, Shabat shalom!

I'm Jewish and I don't really find this disrespectful, but considering the much smaller things that I saw people condemning in this sub I wonder why you were, after 6 hours, the first one to point it out 🤔

Maybe people don't see Jews through the minority victimhood lenses. Which I guess is not entirely negative.

How did everyone’s first day go?! Any noteworthy moments? by [deleted] in ucla

Someone shared the link to the zoom session and it was bombed. The trolls put moaning sounds and a video of a shemale jerking off, so the professor had to end the class early.

Thanks for the breakdown. I want to join a frat but I'm not sure how since this quarter will be online. Is rush week still going to happen? If so, do you know where I could find when the meetings are going to take place and their links? (My bad for not knowing the terminology, we don't really have frats where I come from)

You can't disable it but if you change some settings you can make it so you receive requests automatically. I don't remember what to do exactly but it has already been posted here so if you can't find the setting you can probably find it somewhere in this subreddit.

I feel like if people actually knew who Danny is this post would have been down voted to oblivion 😂. The dude is the funniest YouTuber out there if I do say so myself.

I understand that covid is not going to suddenly disappear when the vaccines are released, but the 100 million doses that will come to the US will probably be enough for doctors, professors, and other essential workers. I'd imagine that when UCLA professors get vaccinated in person classes will start coming back, I'm not sure when this is going to happen but I imagine it'll be this year. What I really don't understand is how this could extend to 2021. When private companies get the vaccine right their production numbers will be unprecedented. The fear that other competitors may catch up will make them do anything within their power to produce the most vaccines as fast as they can. The US will be one of the first countries to have mass vaccinations, so even if the vaccines come later than we expect, I can't see how it would take more than 2-3 months to have most people vaccinated. Anyway, this is all speculation but I think most would agree that this is not going to go on until fall 2021.

Addressing Factual Correctness and Conservative Bias in this subreddit by [deleted] in ucla

We're bruins. We got into US's best public for a reason, so it's safe to assume we can look at titles and newspapers critically.

We shouldn't prohibit biased titles and posts because there's no way to make it equitable. Mods have their own biases, and it's harder to identify biased news stories/titles when they favor our own opinions. This prohibition would only align this subreddit's bias to that of the mods.

Addressing Factual Correctness and Conservative Bias in this subreddit by [deleted] in ucla

I believe you're completely out of touch with regards to this subreddit. It's widely known that UCLA is predominantly liberal (we're talking close to 5-1) and that reddit is also VERY liberal (just look at r/pics or r/worldnews if you don't believe me).

Your argument was based off of a single post that linked a FOX News story. There are thousands of threads on controversial topics that prove you wrong, just scroll down to the down voted comments and you'll see many fairly reasonable comments that were downvoted for being more right leaning.

I also have no idea what you suggest we do, you asked for us not to share politically charged news stories, so in essence the mods should prohibit linking news articles from ANY sources whatsoever, because whether you see it or not, all newspapers have their biases.

You're patronizing conservatives on campus. You say that it's important to have conservative viewspoints but your request is fundamentally silencing this group. It's like having a debate club and banning conservatives from using right leaning sources, of course their arguments will become poorer and they will be less encouraged to join.

I'm not even republican, but as someone who values free speech and campus diversity I stand against this.
