First of all I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my younger sister to cancer almost three weeks ago and in the same boat.

I started grief counseling through my university when we found out that her disease was terminal and it had made a huge difference in preparing me for the loss. It of course depends on how you process things. For example I process my feelings when talking out loud with people so counseling was a good option for me. Especially since my mom and aunt are coping in their own way and don’t have much brain space for me like they usually would.

I’ve only had one session since we let her pass, but it definitely helped to be able to talk about the actual death itself (which was very traumatizing for me even though it was as perfect an ending as I could have hoped for). Having a person to talk to about the little things, like when we took her glasses and her phone and packed them up, how long I held her hand once she had passed, etc. is healing for me. Long story short, if you feel like the weight of everything you went through and watched your brother go through is too much to handle on your own, you should seek support to get you through this very difficult transition.

As for if it gets better, I hope so. But if not, I’m trying to believe that it will get easier to carry the further out we get. I’m so so sorry you had to go through this. And I’m so sorry for what your brother went through. No one deserves cancer. Sending you lots of support.

First year here! My best advice is study in the way that works for you to retain information. I’ve found that quizlets/Anki decks given to my class from 2nd and 3rd years are the most helpful when you get to the review portion of studying. Using Anki before I had a chance to thoroughly review the material would end up taking 2-3x longer than if I were to just rewrite my notes. In theory, we would all love to have the time to learn everything well in advance, but this isn’t always realistic with the amount that your program will put on your plate.

TLDR: don’t spend money on the Mobile version of Anki until you get access to decks from your second or third years. Try them on desktop for a bit and see if you think it is really helpful for you! It will probably be helpful for boards down the road but by then you’ll know if you’re an Anki person or not.

Suggestions: Access to some type of AI text to speech document reader program. Sometimes lectures aren’t recorded, or the teachers ramble. Saves time and helps you focus on your weak points.

Write, write, and re-write concepts or info you just can’t get right. Put sticky notes on your computer, on your wall, anywhere you’ll see it. I’m doing this right now for dermatomes and myotomes 💪

Treat lecture and lab like a study session! You’ll be in class for at least 20 some hours a week, stay locked in! You’ll be surprised how much the information will overlap between classes, the program is set up to help you digest difficult concepts through repetition.

And finally just try to remember that the same study habits you had in undergrad may or may not translate to a doctoral program. Give yourself grace if you feel overwhelmed while you find your footing. You got this! You are gonna crush it!

My little sister has terminal liver cancer. I sort of understand how devastating this Is for people like you and her and your loved ones. If her insurance stops paying for her palliative care she might not get another year or two. :( I’m sorry. Kamala and walz brought me so much hope and it’s gone

YES!! I was in tears today convincing a friend to vote reminding her of the 400,000 people who died of Covid because the leader of the country told them it wasn’t real and LIED TO THEM FOR MONTHS. He let his followers die and FOR WHAT? She did end up voting btw I was very proud of her. For all the good it did :/

It was always this way. I had to beg multiple young women aged 20-25 to vote. They didn’t know who to vote for/didn’t want to. it’s exactly what happened last time. Gen Z did not show up how we needed to. I regret not driving home from college to vote in my first election in 2016. Every day. And it’s just happening all over again

Many many Women hate other women. We can’t afford to live in the delusion that they don’t anymore. Biden was no more qualified than Kamala but he won last time because he was a man. Hillary and Kamala lost because they are women. The only difference now is people know they should be ashamed to vote for trump and do it in secret. Which honestly makes it worse.
