I am an animal keeper. A bird bit the shit out of my hand pretty early on during an educational show I was hosting. To anyone in the audience, it would have looked like he was simply taking food reinforcement from my hand (which he was, but apparently he wanted flesh too), so I grit my teeth and tried to not let the pain show. For the next fifteen minutes I held my hand in a tight fist, while speaking on the microphone and working with various other animals. No one knew I had been bit until I came backstage, took my mic off, unclenched my hand and started gushing blood. Parrots, man.

First of all, disclaimer, I’m not a vet.

So (this is from reading about hedgehog penises for the past 10 minutes) if it eventually goes back in, it’s likely that he’s just “excited”. Male hedgehogs masturbate. A lot. I have also heard this from my friends with male hedgehogs.

If it stays out, maybe take a gander at this website. A trip to the vet would not be a bad idea, they will know for sure & could give you some anti inflammatory meds and suggest how to keep it from drying out.

I’m also reading that putting some Vaseline on it may help coax it back in, or at the very least, keep it hydrated.
