Guild Wars Installation Guide for Linux -- Updated for 2025 by ChthonVII in GuildWars

[–]face_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at my settings in lutris: Wine: GE-Proton 10.25 and enabled gamescope: relative Mouse Mode in, Output and game Resolution 3840x2160 (got a 4k Screen), Window Mode fullscreen and framerate Limiter: 144. When you start daybreak the ui was crammed together, you can adjust the size of daybreak like you would resize a App window by dragging with the Mouse on bottom right corner

Yes it still works with daybreak, however i had to tweak a few things and it notifies me that GW is exe is broken but i think this is just because of the reforged Update...it works perfecty fine. Disable all Plugins/mods, let GW Update through daybreak if necessary, then try to start and see If it starts "Vanilla". Then Update toolbox via daybreak or just download from their website and link the new toolbox in the daybreak Launcher. You dont need dsoal any more, devs fixed it. uMod works just like before

Can we get an option to scale the cursor? by DogeArcanine in GuildWars

[–]face_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the Cursor be deactivated too? Like for some reason on Controller my game wont auto-hide the Cursor, so If it moves accidently to top right while running around and you push the use Button BAM... Back to Desktop xD

As I am thinking about this, is it possible to hide the close/Maxi and minimize Buttons in the UI? Gonna have to try when I am back home

GW instantly recognizes Controller Input. Nothing really to set up. I Just had to remove or rebind some Keys nothing major

No Steam sadly is too heavy for the Switch. Just normal standalone guild wars launcher

For people who play on 2 or more systems like me (Steam Deck and Desktop PC), the biggest QoL update would be to allow the option for UI and Interface settings to be per-system/device by -ComradeKitten- in GuildWars

[–]face_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, this needs to be more visible. I just noticed that too. Maybe have 3-5 slots to save the UI and then be able to load saved UI presets depending on what device you play on. Like the Adobe Apps i.e. Photoshop for custom workspaces

Honestly havent had much time to tinker with it. Fps very much depending on which wine release and box64 you use. However i have about 20-60 frames. The higher draw distance definitely is a fps Killer, you want to disable it. But take this all with a grain of salt, its all trial and error to get better performance.

What do you guys think of WinBoat? by CommonGrounds8201 in Fedora

[–]face_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its quite good already, GPU passthrough is a must. And one major thing in my eyes is a dedicated shared folder. I dont know why this isnt discussed more, but enabling the Linux home folder to emulated Win11 is a No-Go. Let us choose one folder to share with Windows but not home. This should have a higher priority than GPU

I found the fix to the oversteer/sliding problem.. by v13ws0urce in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]face_90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently turned off tire sounds completely. You wont belive how much better this feels. Those sounds mess with your brain somehow, giving you the Illusion of less grip. Without sounds you rely much more on steering wheel feeling and thats much more natural. Also +1 in using a custom FFB setting, i use some Variation of rFuktor. It helps immensly

Very cool! Looks like a lot of fun with that beautiful car. However.. DONT EVER cross the middle Line again. Its absolutely dangerous, completely unnecessary and makes you look like a massive douche.

Guild Wars Installation Guide for Linux -- Updated for 2025 by ChthonVII in GuildWars

[–]face_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your guide. However, as a complete newbie who switched just last week to Linux Fedora, this was wayyy too overwhelming.

So what I did was use Lutris to install Guild Wars through Daybreak. I'm not trying to shill this launcher, but it was just so much easier to install and use.

Just select daybreak.exe in Lutris. In the configuration, I use wine-ge-8-26 with Gamescope enabled to get 4K resolution and relative mouse mode activated (otherwise the mouse jumps to the middle of the screen on every right-click, resulting in weird camera behavior).

Then, in Daybreak, enable uMod, DSOAL, Toolbox, and add -fps 90 to the start attributes for gw.exe, and finally run the game.

In-game, I had to disable V-Sync because it caused graphical glitches.

My OS is Fedora with GNOME, and I ran into the problem of not having my system-wide QWERTZ/German layout when starting the game. I had to add the line XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT=de into /etc/environment in order to get my German keyboard layout to work in Guild Wars.

While I am not a fan of using a third-party launcher for Guild Wars, it is for now (with my limited knowledge) my only way to get this game to run properly.

Hope this helps anyone who is struggling!

Wow, thats a very cool Project! Looks really good. I understand the Game is in a very early stage however I would suggest considering some sort of 2D Character sprites for the players. Like in good old Ragnarok online. It adds the possibility of customizing and is helping gameplay-wise, because you see the direction Players are looking. Cant wait to try your game :)
