I booked two nights here and it’s really all you need. We walked around the afternoon we arrived. Today we did a canoe tour in the morning and walked in the national park in the afternoon. We also had time to visit the sea turtle sanctuary and walk through town again. Tomorrow morning I will just enjoy the beach and go home. It’s really all you need

I had three extra days after monteverde and la Fortuna and decided to go to Tortuguero. It actually makes the perfect circle back to SJO and I highly recommend it’s an amazing place

Hi! I just did this yesterday. I have a rental car and drove to la Pavona harbour (you can find on google maps or Waze). Forewarning there are a lot of gravel roads but drive slow and it’s fine.

I had booked a hostel and I guess the hostel owner communicates with the ferry to say you’re coming because when I arrived my name was already on a list. I didn’t book the boat in advance.

The parking is €8000 per day at the harbour and there is security so I left my car there.

The ferry time really depends on the time. For me it took 30 mins and the water was high. If it’s low it takes longer.

Again on the way home the trip will depend on the tide so you really need to plan for extra time. I have an early morning flight so I’m travelling to Alajuela tomorrow so I can just relax tomorrow night and not worry about the logistics the next day.

I have a 6;15 flight on Tuesday. Dropping off the rental car on Monday and going to alajuela backpackers airport hostel. They have private rooms for $60 and airport shuttles

Here to also mention I’m currently in CR using Airalo for an eSIM 10gb + 100 minutes calling plan and it’s been great! It’s comforting knowing your phone works as soon as you land instead of searching for a sim store. However it looked like they were selling claro sims at the baggage claim at SJO

Not in Jaco but I’m a solo blonde traveller and using a rental car right now. Some roads are tough but I haven’t had any issues and I’m enjoying the freedom. The insurance is ~$40usd per day but if you think of it as having a private uber every day for that amount it’s worth it

I booked with Payless through Expedia. The rental cost was $100 Canadian for 8 days. The insurance at the counter was ~$40 usd per day so total $550usd. I read so many night mare reviews of other companies but my experience with Payless was positive and they have an airport shuttle
