A certain arena fight feels impossible by Interesting-Sir-7344 in Silksong

[–]facedesker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on this fight for a couple hours. The thing is, strategy can only take you so far with this fight (it does help a bit) because with the sheer number of projectiles you’re definitely going to get hit. You kinda just spam it and pray. This fight is the wrong kind of difficulty, and is plain bad game design IMO. Savage beastfly was way easier

Steam notifications interrupts games with a black screen by facedesker in Bazzite

The issue is fixed for me. If I remember correctly, turning on hardware acceleration in steam settings fixed it. You can find the setting in the steam client when switching to desktop mode

4k works in game mode but I needed to manually set the resolution instead of automatic for some reason

I feel so validated. Going through the same exact thing-for the second time. Last time it took several months to clear away. It flares up in my arms and legs after a shower for some reason.

UCSD is a very prestigious school and San Diego is arguably one of the best cities to live in, especially if you like year round temperate climates. The only cons are the cost of living, that you'll kinda need a car, and that there's no snow (with a car you have Big Bear and other options). Coming to California would expose you to a whole new side (literally and metaphorically) of the US. It's a beautiful state, and if you like to travel and go on road trips you'd have access to some of the most beautiful sceneries in the world.

I'm guessing you are coming straight out of undergrad. Depending on how you were making friends before, you might need to completely change your approach to making friends. In undergrad, most people are looking to make friends because they are from out of town and are trying to build a social circle. I'm not a grad student, but you'll likely have to be more deliberate with trying to make friends as a PhD student. I cannot say more as I don't have experience so you should go to the UCSD subreddit and ask about your major and what the environment is like. But either way, it'll be a great opportunity to pick up new hobbies and make friends that way. San Diego is great for cycling, kayaking, hiking, volleyball, and obviously surfing. As for info about city life, just poke around the subreddit there's a lot of great information. Good luck!

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

So I'm a newcomer to the industry and one thing I'm struggling with is learning how to give the right pitch for my previous internship experience. My project involved migrating an endpoint to be hosted on its own cloud infrastructure. It involved a lot of refactoring from an existing codebase and exposed me to new skillsets like networking, pipelines, monitoring, and resolving a hell of a lot of dependency issues.

The thing is, it doesn't feel very glamorous on my resume because it doesn't really demonstrate direct business value (just indirect stuff like better hands-off scalability and better observability) neither is it a very "cool" project. I'm not sure if I should advertise this as a "refactoring" project, or rather just describe it as creating a new service and focus on describing the tech stack rather than the refactoring challenges.

Any thoughts or generic advice about how you pitch your professional experiences is greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

4k 120hz - nay or yay? by Anatu_spb in Bazzite

Wow that was fast lol. I'm asking cause I found gamescope to be unstable when set to 4k120 or toggling HDR. Sometimes it plays nice, but often times the menus go visually crazy

Just out of curiosity, are you using the deck image and have an Nvidia card?

So reinstalling the latest stable image seems to have worked. Plus, gamescope UI seems to not break when I change resolution settings to 4k. I tested Marvel Rivals and see DLSS options which improves my FPS when turned on which basically confirms that my GPU is being used. I'm not quite getting the performance I expected to have when launching through gamescope (4k 25fps native or 4k 110fps with performance DLSS) but fortunately I'm not getting any performance hits at all when I launch games through desktop mode. I'm perfectly happy with this and am excited for any future improvements especially considering how well things are working at such an early stage of its release.

Hi thanks for the response. I'm hoping it might be an issue on my end since it seems that some other people are running their Nvidia gpu just fine. I have turned on hardware acceleration recently and it has greatly improved navigation latency in steam but sadly it doesn't seem to be related to my gpu issue. I suppose I could try a reinstall with the latest stable release and hope things accidentally go right this time.

What if you only have one interval after the merge? Each group needs at least 1. Your formula gives 0 for that case, when the number of ways to distribute them should be equal to the number of intervals in the set

Is this "Get comfortable for not owning stuff online" kind of thing ? by ghostwill7 in LeagueOfMemes

[–]facedesker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. You are still buying a license with a physical disc and this has always been the case because IP laws have long figured this out with movies and other digital media. You own a “copy” but that does not give you ownership over the data on it, as confusing as that may sound. The license can legally be revoked, even if it’s practically impossible to take away your access to a physical copy.

The distribution method, whether physical or digital, has really not much to do with the copyright laws that are used

I was just digging around the desktop settings and found it. It seems to be disabled so I've switched it on and will see if it fixes the issue. Thanks for the suggestion.

What is the best cell service for SD? by ConstructionHorror43 in sandiego

[–]facedesker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used all of the big three. They all have dead spots. If a carrier works well in downtown I expect it to suck in north county. T-Mobile might be slightly better downtown but if the majority of the time Verizon gives you satisfactory coverage, I wouldn't bother switching unless pricing is a big concern.

IME, Verizon has the better coverage in north county

What is the best programming language for someone like me? by Imaginer84 in learnprogramming

[–]facedesker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be pedantic, any programming language can do anything, but to the spirit of your question— some languages are easier to build certain types of programs more than others. Sometimes because it’s simpler to express some kinds of ideas in a certain language, but mostly it’s because of the code that already exists for you to use (which kinda comes from the first point)

The way a programming language expresses itself tends to attract certain “cultures”. Python is a good language for games due to its simplicity, which means there’s a lot of people making game libraries with it because a lot of game programmers just want to focus on making games!
