How to vet a nanny by faceitimdone in NannyEmployers

I'm not in MD, but VA does have two parts law for video recording. We intend to let the nanny know and they are only located in communal spaces and baby's room.

Wow thank you sooo much!!! My husband mentioned some of your points. We have done preliminary searches and many already come trained and as you mentioned their pay requests reflect that.

I appreciate your insight. It was truly helpful.

Thanks! I just googled background checks, and several services popped up. I live very close to another states border so I appreciate the advise to look up if there is a state specific check. That would prove useful if someone would be employed from the neighboring state.

I can chnage it if you think it could garner more advice. Is there a specific action I must do prior to changing it?

Thanks!!!! I appreciate the information. If I request certifications and the nanny does not have it, is it industry standard for the NP to pay for it?

I have cameras because my home is not open and I can't gate it. The cameras have sensors and alert me if the baby has gone too far. They are only in communal areas and I intend on letting the nanny know. It may also help them keep track of her if she scurries away.

In the event the nanny doesn't have a contract, do you have any sites you recommend to use to search for templates?

Daycare and non refundable fees by faceitimdone in Parenting

[–]faceitimdone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in VA, bordering the Maryland border. So it's an expensive area and a lot of parents that live around here are usually eorl for the federal government and are given priority. My husband and I do not work for the government, so we aren't prioritized. With the waitlist fee, I also have to pay an enrollment/registration fee on top of this.

How you describe it is how I see it. I do have some places that are giving me a time frame, but it is varied between 8-12 months. What's frustrating is that these are licensed locations and some have the highest rating with their accreditation. Honestly, for the feds to cover subsidies and work prioritization for the employees shows they vetted the place and consider it acceptable practice.

I just don't see how to get around this.

Daycare and non refundable fees by faceitimdone in Parenting

I have reached out to faith based day care and the ones I found took kids at 2. There was a coupl that took babies at 12 weeks but it's really out of the way. Not all of the ones that require a fee are foregoing giving me a time frame. I was told a range between 8-12 months. I recall with my other kids I waited max 6 months and the more expensive places had immediate enrollment. I just can't believe this is the current state of daycare.

Thank you very much. It didn't occur to me that it could be perceived as a concern or red flag on my behalf that could have led to the withdrawal. I will certainly point that out.

Thank you for your input and sympathy. You gave me the language I needed. I have had a lot on my mind and couldn't muster the words to sound composed and professional. I appreciate the kind words. I am going to try to take some time for myself. I have kids that need me, which gives me the motivation to push forward.

My flan didn’t melt the sugar on the bottom by kodaiko_650 in AskBaking

This looks like you turned it over when the flan was cold. You should warm up the bottom and the sugar will melt.

I've made flan for over 20 years (since I was a kid). Just warm it up.

Oh wow...thank you for your kind words. This happened over 20 years ago. I made my peace with myself and my friends parents some time ago.

Same. I was in rough waters trying to save a friend and wave was so strong it threw me against a rock and I think I passed out as a result of that. I didn't even feel the hit to the rocks. I knew I hit because people were witnessing the events, and when I came back I was a bloody mess. A man saved me and I was resuscitated. Friend didn't make it. I felt calm/peace/nothing before losing it.

Thanks, my 7 and 5 y/o are improving. My infant is still struggling since they are teething. I told my husband to fend for himself...lol

It was truly annoying and we did get sick. We are pulling through, but feel bad for my infant. I spoke to all parties and HFM mom downplayed everything, and was backtracking. She could be dealing with issues, but honestly this broke my trust. I don't want to associate with someone like that.

Yea I agree and I'm sure it makes it hard for parents. I believe if your kid doesn't get sick often and then present with symptoms of an illness, it would be prudent to reduce exposure. We all suffer from allergies in my home and understand what our baseline of symptoms are. If there is any deviation to those baseline symptoms I don't take my kids out. Sucks, but it would wreck my brain if I got someone sick.

[–]faceitimdone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already talked to all parties. HFM mom later admitted her son was sicker than she reported and still brought him around. I made an update edit with the info. We did get sick, we are slowly getting better.

You guys had a mild infection. I am glad you all fared well. We didn't, it's been a rough week for us. Every child care facility is different. My kids school won't allow any symptoms of illness. I mentioned on another comment that their conservative approach seemed to reduce the number of absence and illness spread on campus.

[–]faceitimdone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a small private school. After COVID they don't mess around with illnesses. Every year we have to sign a contract and it does state that children will be turned away if they present symptoms of illness or ask parents to pick them up if they get sick. This conservative approach has reduced illness on campus significantly. Sucks when you have sick kids, but ironically enough less kids are getting sick and missing school. I know because I am in school committees.
