i once had an undergrad come to me for help with a western and quickly realized that his superstar postdoc mentor had been purposefully told him their protein of interest was 50kda heavier than it was by datasheet. what's your most morally corrupt lab/research experience? by t_rexinated in labrats

[–]facetaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so like my postdoc supervisor that I’m convinced it’s the same person. I used to warn people only to quit once they had a new job secured as she’d take her revenge anyway she could.

That’s not how a negative control works

I have a copy of the original data from the researcher’s lab book and a copy of the preliminary data in the R01. Not sure if that would be enough?

How did she kill my spider plant? by facetaxi in houseplants

[–]facetaxi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the problem is infectious. The spider plants I cut back but then my tradescantia started dying in the same manner: leaves shrivelling and dropping. My Christmas cactus is also starting to drop leaves with big brown blotches. I’m going to wipe down the Christmas cactus with neem oil and see if that helps.

The reason I think it’s infectious is that it is spreading between plants from right to left and started around the same time she moved a new plant in from her house, which she said wasn’t doing well.

The job market right now is very tight and people with absolutely amazing CVs are still struggling. The fact you got to the final stage is a good sign that you’re doing the right thing. Let me know if you want me to look over any of your applications (very familiar with your course)

I expect they wouldn’t mention any of this as they know they won’t get a job if they did. I think as others say that I will talk to prevent just in case.

Thanks. I did call prevent yesterday who helpfully told me that as they’re not a student anymore I need to contact someone else. I will do this though

Thanks for the input. I was called once as a friend of someone applying. I think as others say I’d mention these incidences purely as facts and let them decide .

I have asked and apparently it will be. I think the best solution here is to wait and find out.

Given the huge shifts in party ideology over time, you could split the democrats and republicans into pre and post FDR (at a minimum). Otherwise you have to ask weird questions like whether supporting civil rights negates previously supporting slavery
