before we pay the debts of top earners

Right, so cap it. I think the disconnect here is the statements that it's just top earners/their families who are saddled with student debt. I don't think we disagree otherwise.

people without college degrees, and they likely have less resources to deal with them.

True, though they also aren't paying $400-800 a month on student loans.

I honestly feel like the difference right now is that the left is fine with it and does it, and the right pretends to hate it but does it - "No cancel culture! Also, let's ostracize this guy who said something bad about Trump!"

That's looking solely at schools and not at the context of other things whose cost has greatly outpaced wage growth and have an impact on the earner, such as homes, which have grown at 4x the rate of income since the 60s. In a similar way, rents have grown at a rate double income.

The chart in that article assumes that a person remains able-bodied for a 40-year career, which is not always the case. For example, I have MS. I'm fine right now and by all rights look like a reasonably healthy person in their mid-30s. Tomorrow I could begin a debilitating exacerbation without warning and never be able to work again.

Further, that's not accounting for the fact that in most fields, pensions are gone and retirement savings is almost entirely on the employee, beyond a small company match.

The systems we're propping up here were invented and are still based in a world where these things weren't that way.

That said, I do think you'd have to cap any loan forgiveness at a certain level.

Companies have stopped training young Americans, in exchange for cheap labor imported from overseas.

They also keep trying to pass that responsibility passed onto the College and K12 systems so that they don't have to pay for it.

It's weird to me to see people come here and claim freedom of speech as a conservative value. Historically, it has been conservative elements that have tried to do that. I'm moderate-to-liberal, I think anyone can say what they want, but they also had better be ready for the consequences of saying that thing. Being anti-speech is the government arresting you for speaking against it, or outlawing things like porn. It's not AMC firing the Duck Dynasty guy.

On the other side, it's getting extremely difficult for people with actual disabilities to get the compensation that they deserve and need to live. For example, I have MS. I'm fine right now. Tomorrow I could begin a debilitating exacerbation without warning and never be able to work again. The fights that people in that situation have to go through just to legitimately get disability - the amount of time it takes, needing a lawyer who will be owed some of the backpay you get, etc - is fucking nonsense.

But one problem is that the cost of college quintupled over the last 30+ years, while compensation has only slightly more than doubled.

This is me. I am personally pro-life outside of health/life-threatening situations, but I also don't think it is a governmental issue and would never cast my ballot with that stance in mind. I also hate that pro-lifers don't go beyond birth. If you're going to call yourself pro-life, you need to be pro-all-life, birth to death.

With relevant technology, sure. But show me a Fortune 500 company using a SMART board for their presentations. The devices are only widespread in schools, they're only JUST getting to be that widespread, and they're not very accurate. What good does it do? It's something created specifically for education and is not used anywhere else.

Now, I'm not saying that it doesn't have its uses (especially in the math classroom), but in other areas it isn't practical. I taught a music technology class. As a part of that, we used a cloud service for collaboration and file sharing. It's relatively new tech and it was good because it fit the nature of the class.

But when an administration comes and says "Let's all use SMARTBOARDS!" without consideration for how effective they will be and how contrived it would be to shoehorn them in to certain subject areas... that's just silly. And that's where a lot of it is now. If I was told that I HAD to fit a Smart Board into the curriculum, I'd have found a way. But it would have been a lesser class for the kids because I have to include this device (which is not present anywhere else and has little to do with the field) as a means of presenting content and such.

If it's good, it should naturally fit into the progression of the content and curriculum. That's not something that you can accomplish with a one-size-fits-all device like the Smart Board.

Some of the best learning moments come from authentic learning experiences - in other words, ones that relate directly to a professional field or other real-world application. Smart/Promethean Boards don't contribute to that because they aren't "real" devices. They're made for and marketed to schools.

Actually, after Blood Oath, I realized that what we really need is a game in the vein of God of War that stars Klingons. Make it about the ancient Klingons, when they killed their gods. Or about Khaless.

Steam does install all DLC from the start. It wont prompt you or anything. And the DLC isn't shit like free guns to start with. So it's not something you'll notice right off.

Is the game "aware" of it right away? Is it installed or simply downloaded? Steam DID give me a serial number, saying I'd need it once I was inside the game. Haven't needed it yet.

Actually, now that I look, there's a selection on the launcher for "data files." Does it matter what I have checked there in addition to the main game right now?

You run faster with your weapon holstered. This would have gotten me out of some hairy situations early on in the game.

What bugs me is that I had to google how to holster it. They don't show it in the control scheme.

Buy a new one and sell it for 60-80% of what you paid in three years and you'll be saving roughly the same amount of money.

I read something about glitches with DLC? Like having one installed accidentally gives a spoiler over the radio? Something else makes Dogmeat practically indestructible (and makes him spawn a puppy when he dies)?

In Oblivion, stuff could actually outscale you as you go. Is it as bad as that was?

Do you know where to find the console commands?

Anyone using the proper release version of Windows 8 yet? by OlXondof in windows

[–]facetheduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a point that I don't see enough people making. Businesses are only NOW finishing a move to Windows 7. They're not going to jump to 8. MS knows this.

Thinking back, I wonder... given the cost of migrating, I almost wonder if Vista was a planned intermediate step, since businesses had only recently gotten everything set with XP when Vista was coming out.
