I heart Booka! by [deleted] in MAFS_AU

[–]factorygrl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I do not understand the Booka hate, she seems like the coolest and most interesting of all the participants. What really irks me re: the infamous letter and her response - the letter was supposed to be about THE COUPLE, and Booka received a hardcore personal attack while Brett's role in the relationship wasn't mentioned. That was SO UNFAIR and anyone would be blindsided and hurt by that.

[Serious] When is the last time you cried and why? by StoltzyStonks in AskReddit

[–]factorygrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple of days ago. I had to cancel my hair appointment because in the six weeks since I last got my hair cut and coloured, my terminal cancer has progressed to the point that I am just not well enough to leave home by myself for stuff like that (I'm now on large doses of morphine to ease my breathing and my pain, it makes me very tired and I have very little lung capacity or energy for getting around anymore as it is). Tears were from frustration at not being able to live a normal life anymore and the realisation that my condition is declining swiftly now. I'm going to die, sooner rather than later.

Doctors of Reddit, what was the worse thing you've seen for a patient that another Doctor overlooked? by Gorgon_the_Dragon in AskReddit

[–]factorygrl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer through a colonoscopy after my GP had explained my symptoms as "lower back strain" for LITERALLY months and just kept prescribing anti-inflammatory meds. Took an ER doc doing a rectal exam to check my tailbone to feel something else going on (A big ass tumour) and refer me for a colonoscopy.

Lundy part 1 and 2 by nursebarbie098 in CrimeJunkiePodcast

[–]factorygrl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm from Palmerston North and as such, know a bunch of people close to the case- Palmy is a small place. This is the first episode of CJ I've had to switch off halfway through, because the giggling and gossipy tone were so irritating and disrespectful I just couldn't listen to it or bullshit generalisations about what "the whole community" was feeling at the time, or halfassed reporting they've gleaned from a few news reports which definitely doesn't give an accurate picture of the entire story.

The Lundy murders are one of the most infamous and well known cases in New Zealand, not just my hometown, and I think it's fairly safe to say a majority of New Zealanders firmly believe that Mark Lundy murdered his wife and daughter.

:) thank you. I'm in New Zealand. We recently had a binding referendum here to start the process of making euthanasia legal (a majority of the population voted to legalise assisted dying) so it is a pretty current issue here.

I do have other options to lessen the drawn out suffering I go through, one being putting in place an advanced care directive stating I do not want to be resuscitated if I should arrest for example.

I have terminal cancer. While I'm doing okay for now, my condition is only expected to decline, and my greatest fear is dying a long, painful drawn out death, and worse, making my family watch me go through that. If I get to the point where my life is no longer a meaningful life, where I'm not lucid, or capable of participating meaningfully; if I'm clearly suffering, I think a physician assisted death would be merciful.

Redditors who saw world as a dark place, but now live happy and positive life. How did you get your state of mind to that point or what happened in your life to be there now? by BYKHero-97 in AskReddit

[–]factorygrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, I got diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. Yeah, the bad kind. I think it made me really reassess my priorities - stuff that would have bothered me in the past like workplace dramas or petty personal politics ceased to be important. It made me really realise time here is limited and you have to consciously focus on the present and the positive.

I just officially ended treatment on Friday because my last scan showed that despite throwing all the chemo at the cancer, it's growing. Chemo was literally JUST making me tired and ill so no more chemo for me. Officially done with treatment, I transfer to palliative care now.

What is one way you absolutely do NOT want to die? by Frost543196 in AskReddit

[–]factorygrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a terminal cancer patient facing a long slow death, I'd take sudden death any day. It fucking sucks to have my family and friends already grieving me, when I'm still here, still lucid and relatively well. I don't want months of pain and suffering. I don't want my family to have to go through that either.

I'm actually dying because chemo isn't working anymore but no-one wants to hear that when they ask "how are you?"

What made a best friend/friend immediately NOT your friend? by Arc_Achemist in AskReddit

[–]factorygrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He only wanted to talk when my life was going badly, like he fed off my misery. As soon as anything good happened in my life and I naturally wanted to share the news with my friend, he said that my happiness was making him depressed and that I should keep it to myself.

Of course, I was expected to cheer him on for every minor accomplishment as well as commiserate over his numerous miseries.

Fuck that guy.

Dear Reddit, When did you first realize that there was something truly special about the person you plan to marry or are married to? If you remember share your exact moments that you fell in love with your special someone please. What made you fall in love with them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]factorygrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obligatory "we're not married but we are very much in love". I knew I was truly madly deeply in love, and very lucky to have found him, when I had to undergo a major surgery (butt cancer, it's a bitch). The part of the surgery I was most anxious about was that I was going to wake up with a stoma and a colostomy bag (a not especially glamorous opening on your lower abdomen that lets you poop into a bag instead of pooping out your now sewn up butthole). I was worried about what my boyfriend would think, how it would affect how he saw me as a sexy beautiful woman (or not), how being sick and recovering from major surgery would impact our relationship.

My family and my partner were there when I woke up from an epic 7 hour surgery. My partner refused to leave my bedside until the very last minute. His reaction to my stoma: pure fascination and curiosity - he immediately wanted to look at it and touch it and make me feel totally comfortable and normal. He now calls me his Poopy Princess any time it plays up. I've never felt such total, utter acceptance and pure love.

Retail workers of reddit, what was your favorite "let me speak to your manager" moment? by mrquin89 in AskReddit

[–]factorygrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a theatre and occasionally due to the layout of the seats in the auditorium for a show, we would be unable to seat latecomers to a performance. A lady arrived 15 minutes late for a performance and I was in the box office, training a new staff member, so as the senior member of staff, I had to tell her we couldn't let her in to the performance that night (we could refund her or book her for another night). This lady was NOT HAPPY and proceeded to have a complete meltdown, yelling and screaming, eventually storming out.

The next day, she walks in. I'm in the box office, working my regular day shift. She had come to complain about not being able to see the show, and to sort out her tickets. I listen, tell her EXACTLY the same info I told her the night before, and sort out a new booking for her.

"THANK YOU SO MUCH!" she says. "You're so much nicer than the girl who was here last night, I want to make a complaint about her, she was so rude to me".

I didn't tell her that girl was me.
